Title: Norge gear box "sticky" after oil change.
Post by: kris on August 09, 2015, 04:21:01 PM
After changing the gearbox oil in my 2014 Norge on it's first service, the gearbox seems sticky.  It seems to up shift okay but doesn't want to downshift unless I first put a little pressure up before downshifting every time I want to go into a lower gear.  It gets better if I ride it for quite a while but it was fine before I changed the oil.  I tried a little wd-40 on the linkage but it didn't help.  I put Redline v-twin transmission oil with shockproof in, could this be the problem?
Thanks for any advice.

What's the VR of the oil? If it's an 85/140 yes it could be the problem.

Thanks for the reply, Pete.  There is no weight specified on the bottle.  When I ordered my oil I just told the guy on the phone(I don't remember where I ordered from) that I wanted oil for the engine trans and gear and that's what he sent me.  I think I need to go to a different gear oil.

Redline v-twin transmission oil with shockproof is the go to oil for Harley. Works fine in my Electra Glide. Not sure I would put it in a Guzzi.

It was a Guzzi dealer that recommended it.

I've never had a problem with running Shockproof, although I've never ran the V twin version. That may be a different animal.

Anyone know where in the US to find the 85/90 that the book specifies?  I can't seem to find that weight.

I run Redline MT90 in my Norge and think it performs pretty good. The MT stands for manual transmission. Been using it in my Brat for years, helped cure scratchy down shifts. Seems to have helped my Norge with the same issue.

Shockproof and V twin are the same. It states that on the V twin web page.   http://www.redlineoil.com/product.aspx?pid=119&pcid=13
