I have a white faced Veglia tach that senses the ecu signal (15M Jackal). Lately it's acting up -- well, acting down might be more accurate. When the bike starts it pops right up to what I expect the idle rpm to be. But as I rev the engine the tach gets lazy and bogs down beginning when it shows about 2krpm. I know I'm turning over 3k+ and it shows ~2200. It seldom points over 3k, even when I know I've opened it up to 4k or better. Sometimes it wakes up and points to reasonable numbers, and sometimes it won't, even through multiple restarts and driving conditions.
Anyone know what's going on and what might fix it?

I have an inquiring mind about this as well. Have several no functioning tachs that I'd like to fix if it is doable. Various versions and vintages. All electronic though. Anyone know of a good diagnosis how to?

The tach on my Bassa acted like that and then it just stayed at "0". Took it apart and found a small lead weight loose inside. Glued it back into a hole I thought was the right one. Always seemed to read about 800-1000 lower than expected after that. Not sure if it was the added weight of the glue or???

Jackal + Tach? Does not compute.
Is this a retrofit on your trike?
Hoping to replace my Veglia speedo with a combo unit in a single housing(thinking speedhut or, *gulp*, motogadget). Hope you can fix the one you got. Watching with interest.

Got a Trail tech Vapor, new in the box. Ain't gonna use it. What's it worth?
On my 03 Cal ev sidecar project I'm using either the oem black face Speedo tach combo or a blue face set off a Cal III FF. Blue tach is dead though. That's why I jumped on this thread.

The lead weights have a habit of falling off, yes the weight of the glue will make a difference

Kind of, in that the jackal engine and efi are upgrades to my Convert
I have a vapor on another bike. It works good, but wouldn't fit with the dash design on this bike. They're ~$100 new.

My fix for a dying tach (the one on my Bassa reads 2000 with the engine off) is to trash it and go with a single instrument dash--like the one on a Jackal.

A word of caution, I have a Veglia that failed (luckily I found an NOS replacement), anyway after my attempts failed I sent it to Palo Alto Speedometer, who are supposedly the best in the business. They're very nice to deal with and friendly but I just sent the tach back a second time because it's still malfunctioning. Not to be discouraging but...they can be hard to fix.

I'll give you a dollar.  or what cha got to trade? My stupid MZ reads 15 mph fast, and the tach reads .. er.. something.
