Title: 2011 Norge 8V muffler falling apart.
Post by: Gliderjohn on August 13, 2015, 07:54:52 PM
Don't know what is happening here and what I can do about it. Both ends of the muffler are pulling apart. Thoughts?

While mine is the previous generation, My experience at the dealership tell me something internal has broken to allow that to happen. The back end cap is attached to an interior component, and I'd say that piece has somehow broken down...

I have three miles of dirt/gravel roads before pavement and some areas are very washboarded. I think the bouncing around, over time loosened the muffler hanger bolts just enough to let things get out of adjustment. After lifting and pushing forward on the rear of the muffler things came together, not perfect in the rear but close and functional. Tightened up everything and we will see.

When I had my Norge in at Harpers they figured out the problem and fashioned a repair that appears to be working. The muffler "shell" is only held together by two tack welds (the mechanic said they were poorly done). Both had broke. Instead of a weld they used rivets instead. Will see how it does in the long run but should work.
