Title: What do the BIG guys/Girls ride?
Post by: bad Chad on August 14, 2015, 07:43:52 PM
I'm huge.  6'6 260lb.  Mostly I ride a Breva B1100 with raised bars, lowered pegs.  It still doesn't fit me quite right, but in runs and handles like a dream.   I also have a v65sp, that I can ride just as far, though the suspension and seat are decades behind modern.

So I can ride the B1100 a good ways, but crossing the country on it, I'm not so sure how well that would go, as my knees an't what I wish they were.   As time goes by I think mid mounts, think Bassa type, would be great.  Just wondering what other "properly sized men/women find a good fit?"

Stelvio.   More room on board than any bike on the planet ....

Like the great late Micael Jackson once said,  "I'm a lover, not a fighter."    He was a freak, but a rich one at that; me I'm not quite a freak, and I'm way far from wealthy, but I like good people.

My thoughts to this point are a Stelvio would fit me well.

6'1", 270

V7 Stone for up to 400 miles per day.  My BMW R1100 GS is the most comfortable bike and the Stelvio is the same type bike if I'm not mistaken.

The most comfortable bikes I have ever owned for hour after hour after hour rides then do it again next day, was my DR 650 as a solo bike.  With a hack, a little less so.
With a hack it would have been my Yamaha V Star 1100 with my home made sidecar, or The Webley Vickers 650.
BTW in those years I was 6' 5" and weighed 275 pounds and my legs actually worked.
I am now an anemic 230 pound wimp, and only 5 foot 17 inches tall.

I also had issues with my B1100 for my size (6ft, 220lbs).  The lower pegs and raised bars helped, but I finally broke down and purchased an Airhawk.  It raised me up another inch and really makes a difference.  I was considering getting the saddle redone (and raised) but the Airhawk did the trick.  I did a 7 hour ride a few weekends back just fine on it.

Give the 1400 Touring a test ride. With the stock seat it stretches you out more than any other Guzzi I've owned. 26000 miles and loving it. I'm 6.0 300lbs  :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:    :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

At your height, you're definitely going to want an ADV bike like a Stelvio or BMW GS.     My Breva 1100 is size just right for me, and I'm only 5'8" with a 30" inseam.

I have a couple friends who are on the tall and big side who all ride GS's (2002 R1150GS, 2014 R1200GS), and wouldn't go back to any other type of bike.

I'm 6'4 250 . The guzzi I'm most comfortable on is the Quota. Surprisingly, I'm also good with the Daytona. maybe It's because my legs are comparatively short and spineys are built for people with chimpanzee proportions.  I'm not very comfy on my '69 ambo (solo seat and pegs).
I'm also a fan of late '80s - early '90s open class sportbikes (pre-900 rr). I've found that 1st generation Hinckley Triumphs are a great fit.
