Title: any tall (6'+) riders on Norge? How do you find it?
Post by: DavidV7c on August 16, 2015, 06:30:25 PM
Hi,
I am  6'3" with a 34" inseam. I  have used my V7c for touring but its a bit of a stretch. I recently rented an adventure bike while on holiday and could not believe that I could ride 8 hours and not be sore or fatigued. But it wasnt a Guzzi and was ugly as f-ck. I'm thinking about a used Norge, 2011-2014.  All the reviews point out the pegs are high for sportiness but this is cramping for taller riders. I'm wondering how others have found it. I know its possible to have a seat rebuilt to make it taller, but this changes the attitude of your back. So hoping there are some similarly built Norge owners on the forum that can enlighten me.

Thanks in advance
David

:bow:I have a Russell seat which jacks you up 1", lowered pegs (1 1/4"), and 1 1/4" bar risers. Works great!  Puts you right at that Fugly (no offense taken) BMW GS riding position.

I'm 6'2", 34 inseam.  My '12 Norge suits me fine.  No cramping so far. Stock seat and pegs.

I have a Breva 1100 which has a very similar ergonomic setup. I'm 6'1" with a 32" inseam. I also have a very long trunk and arms. My Breva became very comfortable after I added a Corbin seat. It moved the seating position enough to take the pressure off of my knees. I had bought some Godwing 1800 footpegs that I may get around to installing one these days. They will give a little more legroom.

thanks.  that's interesting.  I didn't know you could lower the pegs.  how does that work with the controls,  did you adjust them as well?  any chance can you post a pic?  and what Peg extenders did you use?

I may not need it,  but good to know the option is there.  The Corbin seat,  does it fit all model years of Norge?  does it move you back,  up,  or both?

I got my Corbin seat used so I don't know if it was ordered standard or added height. It seems to move me a little higher and back a little.

Search the BNS12 forum at guzzitech.com - I posted a thread about Goldwing pegs on my 1200 Sport.  They were about 1" lower than the aluminum sport bike pegs on the 12S, I bet about 1/2" lower than the stock Norge pegs.  No adjustments needed, just rotate the shifter and brake pegs (oval adjusters).  I tried the Knight Design lower pegs but had too much interference on the stands and on the brake lever.

I'm also 6'3" / 34" inseam and the 12S riding position (lean and reach to the bars) was perfect for me but my knees were too cramped.  I upgraded to a Stelvio (also with GW pegs) and am in heaven!

If you liked the fugly ADV rental, take a look at a Stelvio - lots of used NTXs are showing up.

I'm 6' 2" with a 32 inch inseam and can ride my 2012 Norge all day no problems. No modifications to seat or foot pegs, but I have fitted the larger screen.

I am 6'2" with a 34 " inseam and the only mod I did on the 8v Norge was get a +1.5" seat from Corbin. It is all day comfortable for me now.

I'm a short guy, 5'8", with 32" sleeve length, and 30" inseam, and I found the 1200 Sport (gussied-up Breva 1100) really uncomfortable from the factory.  First change was to Mana bar, which is probably in between the stock Sport bar and the Norge bars.  Installed moveable footpegs available thru Twisted Throttle and other sources, and adjusted the bike shifter/brake controls to work with them.

I had Sargent Saddle modify my stock saddle with their firm foam, but they didn't eliminate as much of the scooped out shape of the saddle as I'd asked for.  However, a major improvement over stock.  I generally ride with this setup for 100-150 mile rides.  My primary reason for using the original saddle for most of my 'around town' riding is the fact that the Corbin is slightly too tall for me with lots of stop and go riding.  That would be a non-issue for you. Incidentally, I like the rear cowl on the stock saddle!

I was fortunate to find a barely-used Corbin from another 1200 Sport owner who had sold his bike.  The pan read 'Norge." My longest trip to date with the Corbin was from home to Northport, MI, slightly over 500 miles and over 10 hours saddle time.  I believe I would have been good for another couple hundred miles if required.
