Title: Bassa Going Home
Post by: Damnyankee on August 22, 2015, 08:24:01 AM
May have mentioned here awhile ago that we have considered a move to Italy. Time has come for that move. We have a contract on our house in Alabama and are due to close on Sept. 25th, on the 26th we begin our journey into a new life in Barrea, Italy. One of my cousins has found an apartment in the center of town that we'll rent till we find a place of our own. We've sold all our furniture, my Altima and will be selling our Tacoma soon. We're taking very little with us since none of our electrical stuff will work in Italy.
Both my bikes are going with us and our dog and cats.

Very little Aaron. My grandparents felt that we shouldn't learn the language but they themselves spoke little English. Barrea, is where my grandparents are from, village population id about 700 and many of them as it turns out are my relatives. As far as speaking Italian is concerned, I managed okay when I was there in 2013 and 14.

Congrats man...  Know the area and it is beautiful.  My wife is from Carovilli, just east of there and we go back often.

Keep in touch - it would be great to hook up in Italy although my Bassa is staying state side.

Buona fortuna..

Mark

Not far at all Mark! I have family in Alfedena, Castel di Sangro and Barrea. Feel free to ride my Bassa when you're in the area.

It is indeed!  Barrea sits in Parco Nationale in the Apanines and is surrounded by history.

You realise that Jude and I will be over next September to ruin your reputations and ensure you are run out of town by locals with pitchforks and burning brands!

Don't worry, the same will of happened with our mate's in France before we get to you. We'll be on some sort of 'Watch List' before we get to you!

Did you get shipping organised for the bikes?

Pete

Hahaha, we ain't scared Pete! We knew you were planning to be in Italy, our good fortune to see you and Jude again. Yes, our stuff and the bikes are mostly taken care of, we close on the house September 25, then to Ohio to visit cousins for a day or so, NJ to say goodbye to sons, brothers and sister, then on to Italy. We'll be waiting for house!

Hey Pete, did you and Jude manage a reservation with Gianni at Antica Officina? Gianni is a great and funny guy.

We're working on it. We are planning the trip with Peter And Kerry from Townsville in Far North Queensland. Once we have all our ducks in a row we'll book.

Pretty exciting stuff. And you're clearly a wise consumer. Guzzi(s) and a Tacoma. Mimic's my garage to a T. Good luck on the sale of the Taco, and I hope all goes smoothly.

Good for you Nelson...

One day I will go there, my Father's parents were from Bari in the Apulia Region, I would love to for an extended visit.

Safe travels Brother, enjoy and live well.

Thanks Rob. Your comments are exactly what my first trip to Barrea was about, "I just want to see where my grandparents were from". Thing is, when I went back in 2014, it was different, it felt like going home so.....home it will be. :)

That is awesome, and a big move as you are no doubt well aware of.

Do enjoy and what Dean said...   :thumb:

Best to you and yours my good man.
