Title: Upcoming GRIT and Oklahoma Radunno (Rally)
Post by: PJPR01 on August 24, 2015, 02:17:55 PM
I just read in the MGNOC newsletter the upcoming events and I do see the GRIT rally listed for the first weekend of October, but nothing on the Oklahoma rally the following weekend.

I presume Oct 9-11 is still a valid set of rendezvous dates, but for some reason just overlooked by the MGNOC newsletter...perhap s it's an "unofficial" rally?  Pity about Swampscooters uncertainty...some folks from Houston were also considering that one I heard...unfortunate ly I can't make that one.

Here's to good weather for the upcoming rallies!

Cheers,
Paul

OK IS OCT 9 - 11.  "Apparently"  it is not a MGNOC officially sanctioned event thus the NAR ( Not A Rally) moniker.  Although not highly organized,  some of the nonofficial sponsors have vast rally experience.  Some group meals - bring something for the communal pot.  Good company. Good roads.  Prepare to camp.  Hammock or tent,  back of pu or van. Toy hauler or RV.  Hot showers in campground. Please attend.

I can't say enough good about GRIT.  Traditional Sunday event tee shirts. Doorprizes, dinner etc. Campout before. Beaver does a great job of organizing everything.   Great sponsor,  Good people and some damn fine pasta Sunday.  If you have dietary restrictions you must contact Texas Turnip (Ken Hand).  He's in charge of the gluten free menu.

GRIT and OK are must do events.

You gotta go to GRIT.

Ken makes some of the best turnip muffins I've ever had for breakfast.

GRIT I was able to attend 2 years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it - I couldn't make it last year.  GREAT food, outstanding hospitality of Texas Turnip and Beaver, putting me up in the "suite" overlooking the lake and having the good luck to win the 50/50 jackpot!  It was also nice to see Todd there as well and meet others (Dave from Galveston).

Oklahoma NAR - thanks for the clarification (the "Not a Rally" Rally theme appeals to me as well), I haven't done yet, but I am planning on doing it (barring any business travel plans) - I do in fact have a hammock I've been thinking of trying out (let's hope it doesn't rain), as my tent (although super easy to setup) is a little bulky to take on the bike, but I'll figure out the logistics as the day gets closer.

Thanks all!

Oklahoma NAR - thanks for the clarification (the "Not a Rally" Rally theme appeals to me as well), I haven't done yet, but I am planning on doing it (barring any business travel plans) -

Michael D, the MGNOC Oklahoma Rep had to step down a year, or so, ago due to work-related conflicts.

MGNOC did not replace him, so there is no MGNOC Oklahoma Rep and no MGNOC Oklahoma Campout.

However, we in this part of the country are lucky to have Dusty and delrod who have been doing Cedar Vale Kansas in April, and Talihina Oklahoma in October as NARs.

Most of the usual suspects will be at Talimena State Park in October, it's just lost its MGNOC "sanctioning".

Thanks...not worried about whether it has the official housekeeping stamp of approval from MGNOC, I was just curious as to why it wasn't listed...but all clear now!    The rally looks like plenty of fun, a nice day's ride from Houston and a great place to ride...so 3 for 3 in my books.

Just working on making sure business travel doesn't conflict and hoping for a good weather weekend...no point in riding in a squall, camping in a rainstorm...so no rain dances for a while!

Cheers and thanks (got your VM Dusty...all good!).
