David Murrenlyn MGNOC LA Rep and Swamp Scooter committee member asked me to relay this news to Wild Guzzi Members. 2015 Swamp Scooters Rally in Lafayette, LA has be cancelled.
I hope this Rally will be reinstated. I know a lot of Gusisti attended.

Doesn't surprise me after talking with them last week.
Overall, this may be better than trying to continue the rally with some half-assed version compared to what they've done in the past.
It was a great get-together. Maybe some energetic soul will take the reins and revive it before it becomes a distant memory for everyone.
I give great thanks to the organizers and all the people who, no doubt, worked their butts off to make it happen. We all had a great time and made lasting memories of the place and people of Cajun Country Louisiana.

Hope it all works out. What's with the wizard hats and end of time dancers???

My son and I were looking forward to Swamp Scooter Rally. We will make plans to attend the FL rally in Nov instead.

That's interesting. He was a cool guy. Works every year. (Darrel?) That's him in pic 1 above posing in front of the scrambled eggs.
The get up was done to demonstrate for us a classic Cajun dance emulating two chickens. His mask shows a beak. He is dancing with his wife in special way to show the two birds flirting about etc. Zydeco band supplies the music.

Nick, you may need some of these to get home.

Yeah I know...The Fla. Rally may just turn out to be some wishful thinking on my part. Unless the Guzzi gang from the last SS rally decides to go ;-)
-
So why was it cancelled? It was a candidate on my short list to check out this year.
-
There's always the GA camp out last weekend in September :)

Another thread about this is out there. Basically, the organizers are tired of doing the rally. Too much work, too few people to do the work.

Nick, that is no where near the same as what you saw at SS.
We would be better if a group of us got together and went to Lafayette to camp and made our normal rounds in Cajun Country on that weekend of all the festivals etc.
I'm thinking of doing just that.
It's like a different country over there. I'm sure Jaqueline's heart is breaking to see her precious Nick too!

The Florida campout is too late in the year for me to ride to and then ride back home. But I'm still interested in something in Lafayette, LA if it is in the normal time frame. So, keep us informed of your plans.
In that campground, all I need is a place to put my tent, a Port-A-Potty during the night and a place to take a shower during the day. Everything else is available.

Leaf,
If your thinking of still making the rounds to the various festivals there are a few nice camping facilities in the area that might be worth a look.
Palmetto Island is nice and has up to date facilities. I'd be willing to pick up the tab on one of the cabins as a central spot for gathering, telling lies, etc. It's about 40 miles south of Breaux Bridge and a stones throw from Avery Island. Abbeville is close so supplies are readily available.
http://www.crt.state.la.us/louisiana-state-parks/parks/palmetto-island-state-park/ (http://www.crt.state.la.us/louisiana-state-parks/parks/palmetto-island-state-park/)
There is also a campground close to the interstate in Breaux Bridge that has nice facilities and would give Nick quick access to Jacqueline's fine cuisine.
http://rvparklouisiana.com/ (http://rvparklouisiana.com/)
We could also extend an invite to the MGNOC folk for supper one night as a thank you for fond memories past or maybe try to get Matt and his lovely wife to ride down if they could make it to prepare some of that fine Frogmore stew.
Anyway, it wouldn't take to much coaxing to get me to show up for an impromptu situation to fill the void for the tail end of the riding season.
You might even talk the Kernel into coming down as I see him whining on another thread. We can put together a distance award and let him and Nick arm wrestle for it.

Just musing; what about a NAR at North Toledo Bend state park to make up for the LA rally???

I'm working on it, Nick.

Joe what weekend are you thinking about. 5 weekends in OCT 1st GRIT 2nd OK NAR, 4th Harvest Classic and Leaf man has something brewing to replace S. Scooters. Could be a very busy fall.

Funny - I scrolled down the list of threads, eyeballed this one and went on past it.
A few minutes later I found an unfamiliar tune stuck in my head...I let it play for a few moments and came to the lyrics.
Leonard Skynard - " Swamp Music ".

Might want to change your screen name from the very mild and normal "normzone" to "Lupus Yonderboy" or maybe an ankh symbol or something?

The rider formally known as Normzone

Lupus Yonderboy ? The leader of the Panther Moderns ?

That's him! You could maybe go by Chiba City, get some microsofts implanted and be even weirder .....

It would be fun to spend a weekend in Chiba City, but I'll pass on the wetware until the interface is a bit less prototype and a bit more routine like dentistry.
-
Just an update.
Along with a few fine folks in south Louisiana, I am still trying to salvage a minimized event in place of the traditional SS event.
I will know more this week and will post all details.
-
If not Lafayette, then I am with Joe for North Toledo Bend, excellent choice that Frank made.
-
The attraction of south Louisiana Cajun Country is much more than a campground to congregate. It's the rich, varied and totally different culture found there surrounding the rally site. Nothing like it anywhere. It's like going to a foreign country.
-
Keep us posted.

Still working on it. Some recon going on this weekend.
I'll know something soon.
-
anyone planning on a lafayette gathering???
-
A few of us are working on it still. I will know something by the end of the week.
If anyone wants to jump out there and propose something themselves, go ahead.
-
Depending upon the wx, i may drive down that week or the week after then head over to the nort Florida rally. I have had minimal riding time this and I'm looking to get away.

Well, boys, it ain't gonna happen for us this year.
Several of us, including people on-site, have tried to patch together a "limp-mode" swamp scooters rally for this year but time has run out for us.
We were not able to pull it together.
There are several good places to camp including the Bayou Wilderness Park, the recent location for the SS Rally. If you enjoy the area, you can get together with a few friends and head down and make your own weekend tour of the place.
We were trying to locate a camping place within a short, maybe walking, distance of morning and evening food. The food and coffee thing is huge at any rally. It is also a big source of the work that drove the SS organizers to cancel the rally.
People want coffee and food in the morning and food at night and they don't like to ride to get it- especially at night when that food involves imbibing mandatory beverages.
Yes, we looked at catering and all of that. But, we don't have time to set all of that up and develop the organizational framework to make it happen. We were hoping to find Boudreau's Campground right across the street from a Cajun restaurant that served breakfast and dinner. The planets did not align. They came close. There are a few places that get close to our dream situation but we could not make it happen.
If anyone else has a better idea or better contacts and can pull something together, please do and let us know.
One small candlelight in the distance - a few of the Swamp Scooters leaders are talking about trying to revive a scaled-down SS Rally for next year.
-
Heard about it at the Kentucky Rally and had planned to attend. Used to live in Houma, Thibodeaux and Morgan City back in the early 70s and just retired. Looked forward to visiting Cajun Country again on my Black Breva 1100 now all set up for touring.... hmmmmm. Never met such a good bunch of people as Guzzi Riders. Been riding for over 50 years, but the Guzzibug bit me in the ass HARD a couple years ago and you guys know the only cure for that bug. Gotta scratch hell out of it. I'm hooked forevermore. Well Joe and Dan. Wanna make it north Toledo Bend State Park? I'm sure Frank will come. Four Guzzis make a rally!

If anyone else has a better idea...
NAR.
Let those who show up fend for themselves.
You'll be surprised at how many people will show up willing to do their own thing.

Jack, Isn't that where we went for Frank's rally?

That was back in 2003 I think. Texas Redneck was there. I had some photos of Frank' rally but can't find them-yet.
However, came across this these three at my La Rally in 2008 at Lake Bistineau (La)

I remember one at Black Bayou where there were only 5 of us!!!

You don't realize how much riding that Dean does until you start perusing WildGuzzi rally photos over the years ..... It's like looking at Bluegrass album covers and realize that Jerry Douglas is playing dobro on almost every one of them ....

What if we called this a bring your own everthing rally and still showed up at the same campground on the same weekend? Charlie Brackett and I have been talking and we'd still like to go down to Lafayette and camp for the weekend.Charlie trailers down from Mass. and is willing to bring his propane burner and cooking utensils. And I can bring a genarator and some ez ups and tables and a coffee maker. We can talk to Guzzi Dave about approaching the camp ground to make sure its ok. We all do our own thing during the day anyway, but we could meet back at the campground in the evening for a pitch in supper and then sit around a fire and exchange information.
Back in the old days we used call this kind of impromtu gathering a Gaggle. Let's put the word out we're having a Gaggle and let's see who shows up? What say you?

Do it!!!

SS was always on the second weekend in November.
