Title: Good source for a quality G5 seat cover?
Post by: Allflatblack on September 02, 2015, 11:15:58 AM
I am looking for a replacement seat cover for my 1980 G5 V1000. Has anyone had experience with a retailer who sells one?

Thanks, John

If it looks like a Convert or maybe a T-3 , I found this seller

http://www.pandkclassicbikes.co.uk/default.html

He sells the covers and watch the video . He has a metal hookstrips to attach for a few bucks more.

He is also on ebay although this auction just ended, but contact him and I would bet he would sell it

The item Leroy linked is one option.

You can also get the entire seat here: (item# SEA18650)

http://www.gutsibits.co.uk/pr/TheShop/index.php?f=e&Shnew=1&Model=6&ModelName=G5%2C+Convert%2C+T3%2C+T4%2C+1000+SP%2C+Cali+2&Cat=SEA&CatName=Seats (http://www.gutsibits.co.uk/pr/TheShop/index.php?f=e&Shnew=1&Model=6&ModelName=G5%2C+Convert%2C+T3%2C+T4%2C+1000+SP%2C+Cali+2&Cat=SEA&CatName=Seats)

Or... I've heard that Harper's does refurbish seats as well, but I haven't seen any in person or online so I can't vouch for them. Most repro's I see out there are "wrong", and it's very annoying since the authentic look of the seat is what makes these bikes look right in my opinion (G5, Convert. T3) probably because the seat is a good portion of the bike  (huge by ratio of the bike size).

Anyway.. <end rant>. good luck and let us know what you find.

Please post pics if you end up finding something good.

My Convert and t-3 need seat covers. I did my homework and many people suggested the Link in UK. The product looks like a great value shipped to usa. The ebay site is the same person.

WHEN I replace my covers will use him, right now duck tape is working. LOL

Well a cover from Guzzibits is $29,

One from harpers is $149. Curious about the difference in the product.

I've seen some covers for these seats that have the MOTO GUZZI print on the back shaped in an arc, sort of if it were wrapping around a fender (which isn't the case for your bike). Not sure where those are coming from, but wanted to mention in case that were a detail important to you. The text is straight across (level, not arched) on the original seats. Seems to me if the print isn't done right on a repro cover, which seems to be maybe the easy part if going that far with making them, so then I wonder about the rest of the cover quality and fit...  another rant, gee.. what is happening to me today??

As far as quality between the two.. Don't know - I haven't seen either one in person.

Hopefully someone who knows can pitch in.

Guzbits is in British pounds so that is about $45, shipping IF under a Kilo or 2.2 lbs, which I really doubt packed for shipment is $36, but 4.5 lbs is $66 to ship across the pound.

And yes they are out of them right now.

I THOUGHT all Convert and G5 seats had 12 or 13 PLEATES on the seat while Harpers looks like 1 or 2pieces stitched on the seat area. Not that this is a bad thing just not period correct I guess

My first link was about $100 shipped with the metal hook thing.
