G'day Kiwi's,
I'm asking you guys on behalf of a [non internet] friend who just bought a very nice Convert which is soon to land in Whangamata.
He's bringing it from USA and it has had electrical issues. It needed a new regulator and battery as the last battery fried from a bad regulator and so that needs a double check from a good auto sparkie as the PO was feeling slightly unconfident about it.
Not expecting trouble but just if anyone has a heads up on a mechanic who Pete might be able to access for Guzzi kinds of things it would be greatly appreciated.

Whangamata is not a large town, so that will narrow his choice of Auto Sparkie. Unless there's an Guzzi enthusiast around, he might need to trailer it to Tauranga or Morrinsville.
I'm in the USA at the moment so I can't easily ask around.

I have found Pete Kelly of Motokiwi up in Waiheke Island excellent to deal with if you need parts. May not have electrical but you never know. He says he does have wiring looms.

The only mechanic I trust enough to work on my bikes is me. Tell him to get on the net, join this forum and just ask away. Pete Kelly is a great guy with bits and advice and never seems too busy for a chat. There are a couple of Converts here and a Guzzi riders group. The internet is the best way to find people and info considering the relatively small number of Guzzis and the owners are spread all over the country.

To the extent that it helps, I can send your friend a CD with PDF copies of all the Convert factory manuals, parts book and owners manual. It also contains wiring diagrams, helpful tips and repair procedures, copies of period ads and brochures and more. It's free for the asking. Just contact me with a PM, include mailing details and I'll drop it in the post.
In addition, Greg Bender's web site has a wealth of Guzzi info plus lots of Convert detail that follows his comprehensive rebuild. Greg also makes and sells excellent wiring looms, including all the sub- harnesses. Start with thisoldtractor.com and dig around for the Guzzi sections.

I second this. LeRoy helped me with this CD when I was restoring my 1978 Convert. Invaluable.
