Sunday, I decided I would try to ride my Breva 1100. I hadn't been on it for a few months(I think, not sure) because of injuries.
I turned the key, got the dash sweep and I hit the start button. The engine turned over but didn't fire. I tried again and got the solenoid click and then I got the SERVICE message on the dash. I turned it off and back on and then I got the ECU unplugged message.
I went inside and got the code to check for errors. I turned the key again and the dash stayed dark and nothing happened.
My bike has a Shorai Lithium battery that is 2 years and 6 months old. I got my Shorai charger and plugged it up. The battery stayed on the charger over night and both lights on the charger kept flashing which means the battery is severely drained.
I haven't had the time and/or the patience to deal with it any more. Maybe this coming weekend. I'm gonna swap in the battery out of my Aprilia to see if that will work. If that doesn't work, I'll need to spend more time searching here for what to check and then it will probably come down to needing an ECU. Maybe I'm a pessimist but I'm just not feeling lucky.
If it is the ECU, what model bikes use the appropriate ECU for my 2007, Breva 1100?

I wouldn't make any trouble until you get a good battery in there.
I think someone on here posted previously that there are some Ducati ECUs which will fit in place of the unit you have. They would need a reflash to work but I think whomever posted it up was successful.
The Ducati ECU being much cheaper and easier to come by (used).

I wouldn't condemn the ECU until you have a solid,stable electrical foundation,ie new battery. those little black boxes don't know what to do if they don't have sufficient power.

As others have posted, don't rule out the battery as the culprit until you know for sure that your battery is okay. There's a very strong chance that it's just a bad battery.
*All you have to do is use a set of jumper cables and see if the bike will start. If it starts, it's not the ECU.

Personally, with all the electronics, I am not a big fan of jumper cables. If the bike sat for 2 months the battery would be prime suspect. Put it on a charger then see if your trouble goes away. Then report back.

Good news and bad news.
If it is showing the ECU disconnected icon on the dash the ECU may be fried but don't despair until you've done all the stuff like battery etc.
Good news is replacements are pretty cheap.

Are you using a battery tender lead? If so check the fuse. The battery tenders will flash if the fuse is blown.

I used the multi wire leads that plug into the Shorai battery and charger. After 12 hours or so, both lights were still flashing so I unplugged the charger. I'm not sure if the lead is fused. I'll check on that.

My Shorai charger says if both lights flash that the battery is severely discharged.

These new batteries are bad if they go below 10 volts.

I went out a little bit ago and swapped the battery out of my Shiver into my Breva 1100. I turned the key and got the dash sweep and all looked good. I hit the starter and all I got was a faint click from under the seat or that general area. I hit the kill switch several times, raised the kick stand, tried to hold my tongue just right but no luck.
I went intpo the diagnostics in the menu and checked for error codes. There were no ECU errors. In the Dashboard error section, there are 2 columns: A and M off to the right of the number. I saw this in the Dashboard errors:
A M
07 O X
08 O X
I looked up those numbers here and 07 is Oil Sensor Fault and 08 is Oil Pressure Fault. Please feel free to laugh at my ignorance but I don't know what the A and M columns mean.
My bike has the Startus Interuptus kit installed. The only wiring I have checked is the leads attached to the battery. The mileage on the bike is 9835. I purchased it new in February 2011. It has been ridden only a few hundred miles in the year and a half or so.
Please share your thoughts on the matter even if it's simply I'm not worthy of owning a Guzzi. :grin:

Active and memorised. If the oil filter wasn't pre filled at the last change it will trigger the errors on start up as the filter fills. Clear 'em and as long as they don't come back stop worrying.
Sounds like neither battery has the CCA to turn the poor thing over. Try a new battery.
