What a mess.
I don't known if any WG members are in the fire areas like Middletown, not far from where I am but if you are and need help, PM me , will figure out what we can.
Lots of people lost their homes and got out with just the clothes on their backs.

A good thing to offer NP. Well done.
(I believe we have a team of fire fighters out there trying to help)

Unfortunately not just Middletown to the north but Calaveras County in the Sierra foothills southeast of Sacramento, too. There was enough smoke in the air here yesterday afternoon that the light was visibly reddish and dim -- one stop down (50% of normal bright sunny day) according to my Weston meter. That's a lot of smoke... hoping people I knew years ago in Angel's Camp and Murphy's are ok if still around. And we're not done yet, unfortunately...

All the jumping frogs are probably really worried about that fire in Calaveras county.

Wow, that is apocalyptic. I could almost feel the heat from those flames.

Actually, the location where the competition was held was in danger from the fire last night; I haven't heard if it's been saved or not.

Saw part of that vid (or a similar one) on the news last night. That guy in the video left his run far too late IMHO. He was lucky to get away with it and I suspect he knew it. The Ozzies have a saying for this happenstance, "If you're going to leave, leave early."
In some bush fires In Oz a few years ago quite a number failed to make it out.

That fire though was huge fierce and fast. It completely overwhelmed the Ozzie defenses and they are experienced with this phenomenon. There were 174 deaths in one day.

I live about 30 miles SW of the Middletown area and we are getting a lot of smoke from this disastrous fire. "Randown's" video brought home the fear that must have been felt by people fleeing their homes. Very graphic, very gripping. We had some light drizzle last night here in Santa Rosa but I don't know if it reached Middletown or did any good.

A friend of mine lost his home to the Valley Fire, his son lost his home, and grandpa's home burned too. Add to that his mother passed away last week. Way too much hardship for one family. Friends got together yesterday and stood up a go fund me site for donations. Nice to see people want to help, the money is coming in.

Just reinforces that we all live in areas that can have disasters of different kinds and we need to be prepared. Evac bag on the ready and important docs kept in a place that can be GS here'd at a moments notice.
I'm not a zombie apocalypse fearing type, but we have fires and storms here and I want to be prepared to get out or hunker down if needed. First thing is I can only fit four bikes on my trailer! Which four to take is the question. And my tool cabinets and tire changer and ....

Just remember, never hunker down in a fire. The strength of the building doesn't matter, supplies dont matter, fire isn't like wind, snow or anything else. Just get out, there is nothing worth staying for. Aluminum melted into puddles.
Fire season for southern California just getting started. The Santa Anna's will make it a tough year unless the rains start early.
