Title: V7 Special Allen bolt rear shock - boogered
Post by: Rotten Ralph on September 15, 2015, 09:45:35 AM
Ready to install IKONs on the Special and true to form the last Allen bolt was stuck! This is the one on the right side lower.

Tried heat, then Allen wrench - no go and started rounding. Went to a torx and still no help. It looks like I can drill off the head and the aluminum spacer will come off. Then I could reheat and remove the protruding stub with vice grips.

Any words of wisdom before I attempt this method?

I would try a hand held manual impact hammer ($25-) It has a 1/2" drive head that can hold a socketed Allen wrench.

And a big hammer to go with it.

Good luck!  :thumb:

If you have a welder, you could disconnect the ECU on the bike, then weld on a scrap bolt and crank the stubborn fastener off with a pair of vise grips. The heat from the welder will help get the thing out.

If that boss is threaded into the final drive housing like it is on big blocks, heat from a welder will loosen those threads too. Be careful.
