I have owned a couple of Eldos, both '74s in fact but it has been a while since.
Do the engine and frame numbers match on the 850's...? I guess, "Should they match..?" is the question...
Gonna go look at another...
Thanks,
Rob

I have a 72, they match.
-
Yes, they should match. At least for US models anyway...

So glad you are thinning the herd!

Radguzzi: When you get another Loop Frame, post the VIN and Engine number on the "Loop List" here:

There is no significance as to whether frame and engine numbers match or not with Guzzi's.
If it came from the factory with matching numbers it was just lucky for the first buyer and for the collector but with the interchangeability of parts over the years you can not tell anymore whether it has had an engine swap or not
Moto Guzzi made no effort in this because they installed whatever came down the line, If they didn't match they did not care.
During those years in the US some states used the engine numbers and some used the frame numbers to title all bikes not just Guzzi's, They also used the sale date as the year model a lot.
With Berliner they would send the dealers new MSO's for all left over bikes with the next year model shown at the end of the year.
There is no set answer to the matching numbers question.

Stop it, don't judge.
This just showed up and I may go pick it up for a friend... yeah, yeah, that's it... for a friend.
How was PEI...?

Will do, thanks... That is how I actually dated the last two but I had forgotten about the loop frame list.
Thanks,
Rob

How was PEI...?
PEI was great, found a lot of interesting roads in New Brunswick, Maine's downeast coast is , well, we loved the whole thing.
I know how it is with Loops, I sure do understand. But what about that EV...
I actually hope you keep the bikes. Unless chasing down replacements is more fun!

Even the numbers on my '74 match-up!

radguzzi...when I asked him how many Guzzi's he's owned he had to go to pen and paper...

Let me put it this way... every Ambo or Eldo I've ever seen, that hadn't been messed with, has had matching numbers. Only V700s have had non-matching numbers. <shrug>

That's awesome! ! You are truly blessed.

"Blessed" has nothing to do with it. I'm just passing on my experience. It may not be as long as yours, but it is valid nonetheless.

You are correct about the difference in experience it is a wide spread. We have more loop frame bikes in our warehouse than any one has seen in one place . If we went out and took the time to actually compare engine and frame numbers I would be amazed if 50 of them had matching numbers. That would be way less than half of the loop frames we have.

Unless you know the history of each and every one, back to when it arrived in the US, you have no way of knowing how many had the original numbers matching engine swapped out. So, that would not be a valid indicator.
-
But you are?
How many Ambassadors did you sell in 1971 or Eldo's and Sports in 73 or LM 1's in 76 ?
I have first hand knowledge and close business relationships with the people in charge of the factory at that time
which is a valid indicator .

In fact I found one of my earlier Eldos on the list, the first one was gone from my place well before the list was created, back in 1990-ish when I bought the LeMans V...

I will update that list one of these days... It is what I refer to as my cylinder count...

Lots of good riding from the coast up to the Maritimes, glad you had a good one.
Are you talking about Gary's EV...? That is gorgeous however, located in Pittsburg... Quite a slog over and back. There is a fellow here in Maine with an '02, same color, fewer miles, blacked out engine, pre-EV Touring so no fairing, just a screen, I have an H & H anyway so maybe.
The Loop that has fallen in my lap is a project albeit complete so I will know better later this afternoon whether or no it comes to my garage or not. '74 disc brake, Civilian model...

Mine matches
-
I'd say of the hundred or so Loops I've owned at least 95% had matching numbers...

Sumbeach
Can you believe it, I'm blessed too (in more ways than one) my numbers also match! In fact on both my former and current loop! They must not have been sold in Kansas.

I don't know...maybe it just seems that way :cheesy:

Well I took a look and left... too much money for a complete, albeit rolling basket.
The engine is stuck, VIN Plate indicates Dec 1973 build. It is very complete but again, needs a compete going through.
The seller, a great guy just would not budge off his listed 1K price. We talked a bit, I looked it all over and when I told him that I did not see a grand he just replied, Well, I won't take less... Cool, I did not have to insult him with an offer of what I thought I would spend on it.
If anyone is looking, lemme know and I can put you in touch with the seller.
Best,
Rob

Oh Happy Day, I too am blessed. 1974 Eldo with matching numbers.
