Title: Options in R&R of 2v Norge Brake Di$k$
Post by: Bill Hagan on September 18, 2015, 02:32:15 PM

So — hypothetically speaking, of course — if one needed to replace the brake rotors on one’s 2007 Norge, what to do … well, except get a HELOC to pay for 'em?

Hypothetical front disks at 4.3 with variances.

I looked, but did not see any recent threads here about this issue.  I started looking here, http://www.af1racing.com/store/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=20527, then saw this, http://www.guzzitech.com/store/product/brembo-snowflake-rotor-gold/.

Then this caught my eye, with M-I Micha's work-around for the ABS sensor wheel: https://www.motointernational.com/service/michas-2-valve-norge-front-brake-replacement-option

Any other options out there worth considering?

As shocked as I am by the prices — I still live in the mid-20th century  — I use brakes to stop … quickly and safely ... so I am not looking (necessarily, tho it would be nice) for the cheapest option out there.

Grazie,

Bill

I recently replaced my rotors (90,000 miles) using the replacement sensor part and EBC rotors from this outfit - http://www.perfectbrakes.com/

Total cost including new pads, rotors and the sensor wheel was under $600 - about $220 each rotor, $37 each side for pads, about $45 for the sensor wheel (AF-1), about $5 for a full set of new stainless steel machine screws (low round head). I also used a SS washer to shim the inset at each hole.  I used different rotors (VR 624) than those listed on the company's current site, but either will work according to EBC. I believe the VR 624 (as I used) is actually listed for the 8v rather than the 2v - but that's OK if you're doing the sensor wheel change. Gold inner is available, black is always in stock.

These rotors are also available through Amazon, but the Perfect Brake guys drop ship from EBC, so I had them next day (EBC's US warehouse is in Las Vegas!).

Bill, not an answer to your question, but thought it might be useful.  When I purchased my 1200 Sport  (semi-naked Norge) in 2009, I had followed WG for several months prior.  At the time, Norge, Breva, and Sport owners were reporting pulsating front brakes, and the recommended cure (or preventative maintenance) was to swap out the OEM pads with EBC HH or similar.  I did so, at 1600 miles, and still enjoy good, shudder-free braking at 60,000 miles.  Admittedly, I don't hammer the brakes, so I probably don't generate a lot of rotor heat.

I'd send you my 'bad' rotors (but I recycled them). They really were bad, the left one had so much play in the buttons it rattled. And if the ABS activated, things got really interesting!
