Can anybody tell me if I can remove the oil line from a 08 2v 1200 sport without taking the alt. out, looks pretty tight in there, have a annoying small leak to the left head that I cannot seem to stop, so I thought I would just replace the line and see what happens, thanks for the help.

Why not try to find where it's leaking before changing out stuff? Clean it up real well with solvent, etc. and spray powdered athletes foot medicine on it. Not only will it find the leak, your sport won't get fungal nails..

Its not the phase sensor weeping and blowing back onto the head is it?

The oil puddles under the left side oil line in the head, I've heard about the powder spray and have not tried it yet, the oil fills the head right under the line and fills up & after a while then it runs down the head, the sensor and oil sensor switch have been delt with and are both dry, that is why I'm thinking it might be a pin hole in the line itself, but I looked at the bolt that holds down the oil line under the alt. and there is not much room, but if it will come out without removing the alt. I will try it myself, but if it won't it gets beyond my comfort level of doing it on my own :thumb:

I chased an aggravating oil leak on Rosie for entirely too long. Changed out valve cover gasket twice. Changed out the o ring in the head. Finally sprayed it and after a ride long enough to get it hot, (the only time a leak showed up) there was a pin hole in the valve cover.

...and you confirmed that there was no fungus or athlete's foot occurring!

I'll try the spray, the problem is tearing it all apart just so I can spray it, I know its not that big of a deal but it is a pita, that's why I asked if the bolt on the oil line under the alt. will come out without having to remove the alt. anybody know? Thanks in advance for any info.

Looks like you're the first person to try this, Bruce. Let us know how it goes.

Ya jinxed me, Bruce!
Not my 1200 Sport ..... but the 1991 R100GS. Took the GS out after a long day of fun on the 1200 Sport, and noticed what looked like oil on the right valve cover. Pulled into service station and observed that it wasn't the valve cover gasket, but the outer hose connection to the oil cooler. Removed the handy-dandy 24 year old BMW tool kit from under the saddle, and tightened the compression fitting joining the hose to the cooler. Maybe, just maybe, this is all it will take. If not, looks like hoses and cooler are still available thru Max BMW, so it's fixable.

LOL Bob, Hope that stops the flow on the old GS, I had a 92 that did the same, the 1200 I'm trying to wait a little closer to the end of ridding season, I'm still riding to work and back, it sucks to pull the tank and air filter assy. just to spray then button everything back up, go ride till it warms up real good then tear it all back apart and hope it shows its ugly head, OK done whining, will let everyone know what I found, may be a bit, this weekend I'm doing the distinguish gentleman ride on the wife's v7c
