Title: Sport 1100 fork height, max through yokes
Post by: Greenman on September 24, 2015, 03:07:25 PM
Does anyone know how far you can drop the forks on a Sport carb before you have issues with mudguard hitting fairing etc.
At present I'm running at 20mm of fork leg above the yoke.
I could go a measure it, but someone out there may know the answer already.

thanks
D

ok, 1" = 25.4mm.
I'll do this in the weekend.
thanks there

On a Carb Sport 1100, the problem you'll run into first is the fork sliders bottoming on the lower triple clamp and damaging the fork seal.

I'm running 20mm on mine.

Mine is a 95 carbie, I haven't had any problems. 1" is just a bit more than .20" than the 20 mm.

I imagine 1-inch is about max before the seals start contacting the lower clamp . At .8-inch I was hitting the seals with the zip tie I was using to monitor travel.

because of possible variations from bike to bike, I suggest you do what Rocker59 did, and use a zip tie.

Yeah, and possible variations on where the measurement is taken.

I only measure the chrome fork tube.  Not any part of the fork cap.

Yes, thanks for the replies,
I did some measurements yesterday, and on my bike going beyond 20mm is asking for trouble as I've got fork gaitors that will only compress so far before they crush. Plus the top of the fork leg gets a bit too close to the lower clamp for my liking.
