Title: Griso starter fuse blew
Post by: jlburgess on September 24, 2015, 07:20:38 PM
My normally stone axe reliable Griso blew a fuse today on start up.  Luckily I was at work and near a multimeter.  The 15 amp fuse was toast but a spare was in the block and saved the day.  I also noticed the battery drained down after 2-3 weeks of not running last month. Is the 5 year old battery toast or is the the Startus Interruptus thing that I haven't read yet?
Thx!

After 5 years, the battery is certainly not what it once was, and if any further issues are noticed it should likely be replaced. It has lasted longer than most do.

The startus interruptus issue doesn't necessarily lead to a blown fuse; since the issue is that too little power gets to the starter, it may never create a draw that causes any fuse to go. That being said, which fuse blew? You didn't mention which circuit it was on. When my Norge's starter failed, it blew the fuse - but then would not start after the fuse was replaced, which led to identifying the starter's death throes as the cause for the blown fuse. In your case, that doesn't seem to apply.

It was the blue fuse closest to the steering head.  The fuse block is near the right rear subframe tool kit area. +1 for the factory to supply a spare fuse there otherwise I was a pedestrian!   :thumb:

Stick a 20A in it.

A 15 Amp fuse is too small for the Valeo Solenoid which may have an inrush current approaching 45 Amps.
As the battery get's low the inrush current lasts longer.
