I like the NoDaks.. still sounds like an Native American name..
-
My vote is for "The Indecisive Butt Covering Administrators". True, but a bit too long for a nickname.

Well, some of the aboriginal-inspired team names are more offensive than others. The Braves can't be considered as problematic as the Redskins, for example, and calling the UND team the 'Fighting Sioux' has got to annoy some people (though maybe South Dakota should have called themselves 'Custer's Cavalry'? )

As someone with Irish ancestry, I am incensed that a Prominent University is allowed to call its teams the "Fighting Irish."
I don't get drunk and fight, and I don't know any people of Irish ancestry who get drunk and fight, and I find the stereotype highly offensive. The NCAA should force this Prominent University to change its team nickname or be sanctioned by the official Committee on Team Names.

Grand dad always said stop greasing the squeaky wheel and replaced it.. Why is it someone gets it in their craw to make a bunch of noise and the whole world lays down at their feet. Some people need to figure out if you want to change the world start with something like taking care a your neighbor who could use a little help in the yard or something that, makes sense don't it. And I have yet to start drinking tonight.

I think that might be the university of the Nortre Damned.
The North Dakota team could well be the freezing icicles.
-
I vote for "The Wasicuns" .

It doesn't work right without Swampy Cree syllabics, but maybe another alternative is to call them the Mis-tah-jim-nah ?
(OK, that's rude  )

It does seem a shame that it required a blanket statement from the NCAA to weed out a few distasteful nicknames . Of course the Lakota and Dakota peoples did not refer to themselves as Sioux , but "Fighting Sioux" does reflect a certain respect for the indigenous people in North Dakota , who were after all ferocious adversaries .
There should be an English premiere league known as
The Dr Whovians
Not that ferocious , but really clever

They could call their mud wrestling team the Dirty UNDies.
