This is for my 1998 V10 Centauro GT.
What lubricants do you use / favor, please? :cool: This is what I was recommended by one owner.
* Engine oil - Mobil 1 synthetic 15W / 50W
* Rear end oil - Redline Heavy-Duty Shock-Proof 85W / 190W
* Tranny oil - Redline Heavy-Duty Shock-Proof 85W / 190W
Thanks in advance!

You're in luck! Rather than finding out what people "favor" because the store that sells it is more convenient to their commute home, or because (Guzzi Content) it's $.25 a liter cheaper, I still have my Centauro manual that specifies exactly what to use!!
Agip 4T 20W50 or other quality AGI spec oil.
80W90 in both the gearbox and final drive.
So easy ANYone can do it!! :laugh:

I use Mobil-1 grey cap 15w50, or preferably the higher ZDDP content Mobil-1 V-twin 20w50 for the engine.
Mobil-1 oil filter is M1-102.
For transmission and bevel, I use Mobil-1 75w90.
All available at your local Autozone.

But that isn't nearly as fun as later diagnosing strange engine sounds. Killjoy.

Thanks Lannis and rocker59! :cool:
Yes, I would not want strange engine noises from that 4V motor! :rolleyes:

I'm old school, I still prefer Corn Oil for my rear end. And as for Tranny oil, the ones I know seem to prefer some sort of specialized lubricant. Said something about, "when riding the old dirt road, you can't take any chances"? <shrug>

And then there is the old standby, Preparation H and Vick's Vaporub.
Sorry, it just read so with the times.

At the risk of getting flamed I use Castrol GTX 20-50 in the engine and Red Line in the other places.

The two best and classic "I'm-So-Cheap" Guzzi remedies I heard from a noted old Guzzisti (whose name shall never be revealed....) were as follows:
* Rust in the gas tank?!? - - No problem! Just add large quantities of white vinegar and run the bike hard to blow it all out! :shocked: :shocked:
* Leaky radiator (does not apply to Guzzi's) or crankcase / gearbox?!? - No worries! Just add black ground pepper to plug up all the holes and stop the leaking! :rolleyes: :rolleyes:

By the way...and just for the record, here is what is stated in the Centauro Owners Service / Technical Manual:
Engine - AGIP 4T Super Racing 20W/50
Gearbox - AGIP ROTRA MP SAE 80W/90
Rear Tranny - AGIP ROTRA MP SAE 80W/90
I am going with Mobil 1 20W/50 for the engine and Mobil 1 75W/90 for the gearbox and rear tranny. Thanks to all Centauro owners for your advice / expertise! :cool:

Back in 06 Guzzi issued a tech sheet updating their oil recommendations to their "then" current line. They went from 20w50 to 10w60 on their high performance models and even recommended 10W60 on the Calis with 20W50 as an alternative. You can get Euro spec 10W60 at Napa.
I had a mechanical oil pressure gauge on my centauro and noticed sitting in traffic in the Florida summer, the oil pressure would drop significantly at idle when running 20w50. After i switched to 10W60, it would hold steady at 20 PSI It idle in the hottest conditions. I do not think 10W60 was readily available back in 98 but is the standard for most newer Euro cars and bikes. Below is a copy of the tech note from guzzi.
TECHNICAL NOTE No. 010-2006 28-07-2006
