With mixed emotions I'm writing this....
In 2009 I got my first Guzzi, a 1000S, which was a "pretty" nice beginners Guzzi. Thats where my screen name came from "Green1000S". I got the bike from Eric, who had taken good care of it for 17 years. Once sold, Eric told me that "never sell your jewelry, you can be without a house, but not without the bike". Eric gave me a list of 10 names who all wanted the bike, but #1 spot did not have a name. He filled "Eric" into it and told me that if I ever sold it, I should give him a call first. It was the only bike he had this long...
Here's Eric and me, 2009 in Philly, the day I got the bike.

I had an absolute hoot with the 1000S, it never left me on side of the road and we toured many times Skyline together, maxing 640 miles in a single day. Not too bad with clip-on's, although my ass had a different opinion of the ride.

Fall riding at Pocono's was always fun with the 1000S...

1000S was not maybe an ADV bike, but it still toured some pretty roads, afterall, it is a motorcycle, not a garage queen.

We saw together Seneca Rocks on sunny weekends.

Scouting together to find real estate at the mountains of PA. We passed this fixer-upper.

My daughter got her first motorcycle ride on the 1000S and now at 17, she tours allover with me (on the Quota)

Not maybe a great load carrier, I still managed to get my tent, clothes, sleeping bag and other stuff and head to the PA mountain rally with Kev. Met few bears (and beers), but survived.

We even collected money together for prostate cancer, this from Distinquished Gentleman's ride 2015, Harrisburg-Hershey ride.

I love the bike and I know how rare and pretty it is, but my wrists and the clip-ons the 1000S had, could not agree on anything.
I pounded the matter of selling it over an year and after many sleepless nights, I decided to separate ways of my old friend. Remembering Eric and how he regretted selling it, I had to give him a chance of buying it back, although I had some other offers on the table. Well, it took him 2 seconds to make decision. This is a bike he will propably never let go, anyway I told him that my name is now on top of the list.
Here is Eric at my house, both of us 6 years older than in the first picture. I have no idea why in the hell I'm smiling... I should be crying?
(http://s23.postimg.org/y9etgliuj/IMG_9321.jpg) (http://postimage.org/)
This was the hardest part, seeing her go, but I know she is in good hands.
Eric, enjoy your bike, I know you'll two will be very happy together.
The circle has closed.

Do I now need to change my old screen name... From "GREEN 1000S" into "SILVERQUOTA"?
Maybe I'll keep it, in case Eric calls me in 6 years?
As such, I must get something to replace it, looked the KTM 1190 and its propably not going to happen. The gang of red suspencers at campfire is too much fun to miss!
Sooooooo.....If there is a nice (or ratty, but mechanically good) Ambo/Eldo for sale, give me a hint. Police models, a big plus...
Or alternatively a Stelvio NTX, preferrably in GREEN, so I have something in common with my screen name.

Life is short. We must at times admit who we are rather than who we think we should be. And sometimes it is painful.
Good luck! Keep in mind you owned a great bike when it was a bike, not an icon.

Great story
Full circle indeed!
-
That is a great story. I have one of those green meanys too. Bought in '99 with 5 thousand miles on it. It is my favorite bike of all time. I know you will miss, but will find something else to fill the spot.
Thanks for sharing you tale.

That's a GREAT story! Thanks for posting!

Clearly I wasn't high enough on the "List"!
Sent you a PM.

If I was without a Guzzi this is what I would be driving to get right now.

That too. And IMO, the price is reasonable.

That blue one's for sale in the MGNOC Classifieds. Phone number listed.
Non stock color, civilian model. Has all the right stuff, done by the right people. Big bore kit, alternator, police fairing and Wixom bags are a bonus.

Speechless, but here's to the next chapter.
-
Similar ride I can only imagine; consider a Griso (stock seat, for my bum, sucks rocks, your mileage may vary). Also good on dirt roads.
But I see more and more guys gravitating to the V7 so I think you should at least check them out.
-
Nope, not selling mine. But it's great that the previous owner got the bike.

Can I get on your list?
-
Damnit!
My name is Eric and I never had a 1000s.
I just rushed out to the Garage in case I had amnesia or something!
No 1000s in the garage. WTH.
I need to get on another list!
Eric

Bummer you sold it. At least it's going to another serious enthusiest. Wonder what Philly Scott said when you sold it. That is probably 1 of 2 of those in PA.. Scott has the other.
I Love those sport 1000s .

Cam, You're at the top of the list.

Cam, You're at the top of the list.
Cam -- can I be at the top of your list for it?
Lauri,
You know that I wanted to buy this from you, even had the money together. But, you absolutely did the right thing and selling it back to Eric. Good on you. I would have done the same.
Often, we are only temporary caretakers of these wonderful machines. I'm sure Eric appreciated you taking good care of it for him.
As Kev said, now onto the next chapter.

Please buy it! I have been trying, unsuccessfully, to force myself not to even look at it since I saw it several days ago. I think it's the deal of a century (as long as it is as it appears), and would be buying it if I hadn't just committed to buying another Eldo. As has been said, it has all the right stuff, but all the right people, and I think it's beautiful. It would probably cost twice what he is asking to restore a bike to that state, and if someone doesn't buy it soon, I'm going to have three Eldos in my garage!
Sorry you had to part with the 1000S, but it sounds like it was the right time, and to the right person. Can't do much better than that!
Cheers,
Shaun

Cam, You're at the top of the list.
Uh oh. Now you might be at the top of Cam's list .... front row at the estate auction ....
-
Queue Elton John singing "Circle of Life"....
-
Lauri-
Selling it back to the right person was not only the right thing to do- it was the righteous thing to do. Good karma is built on doing things that aren't necessarily the "best" financial decision for ourselves. Have fun shopping for the next bike. Try to ride before you buy. The decision should be made by your butt as well as your eyes.

First he has to get the bike and that may take some time.

I'll give you $100 more than Cam is offering.
-
Lauri,
I have your old 850T if you want to complete another circle. Or an T3 if you want to open another.
-
I'll give you $100 more than Cam is offering.
A 100 bucks?
Serious sickness or death will likely trigger the sale which mean you will have to negotiate with my wife. All I can say is, good luck and keep some offer of expensive shoes in your negotiation arsenal.

There you go Jas67... A pair of pretty shoes will get you on the list!!!

It's good that it gets used, even if it is a rare beast. If it were the only one left on earth, it should still get ridden.
In the same way, it makes me sad to see something like a P-51 Mustang rotting away in some museum. It should be flying.
A motorcycle is safe in the garage, but that's not what motorcycles are built for.

Ride one first, I think you'll be horribly disappointed after the 1000S, heavy and slow with garbage brakes.

I don't recall him saying he wanted/expected similar performance as the 1000S. He sold it for a reason.
Loops are a very comfortable capable all round machine, even with the drum brakes.
-
Correct, I'm not looking for a replacement, but a different ride.
I adjust easily to different types of rides, except Busa. That would kill me in 3 sec flat.
I'm perfectly fine with 11 seconds. Whether that's acceleration or brake distance, all the same.😃
-
Lauri,
I'm glad we were able to get the Daytona and the 1000S out on a ride before you parted with it. I'm looking forward to seeing what you replace it with for future tours.
