I get a 404 error when trying to view the link.

Me Too! Don't know why, I double checked. Oh well, I guess I'll have to figure out how to post pictures here. Until then anyone who's interested can email me for info and pictures.
Thanks, Steve

Quick question - mileage on the bike is listed at 295,000 ... just wanted to check. Some sort of award should be forthcoming!

Nice one, well done.

If only that was in Wisconsin. That's a beauty.
-
What carbs on on it? I read that set up for 36mm just wondering if it has 36mm carbs.
-
36 mm dellorto flat tops with uni filters. I used the LeMans side covers for clearance for the cars and filters and the straighter manifolds.
Thanks

What a pretty SP Steve, Looks very familiar... :thumb:

That is a beauty. Price seems very reasonable, too. I would think it will sell quickly.

Tell you what.... I have full confidence in this bike though I've only had it a short time. I bought it for a few reasons:
1. An '83 SP was my first Guzzi, bought new in Va. Beach while I was in the Navy. Traded my '68 Bonneville hot rod and never looked back. So this was coming full circle in a sense.
2. It has a " Manfred" motor!!! I've had two motors built for me by Manfred in the past. His work was impeccable as was his shop in Brooklyn. I visited there several times and actually met Dr. John there once. It's a little known fact ( Manfred not being one to boast) that Manfred built most of Dr. Johns race motors.
3. These things are mile munchers and given the right body type are extremely comfortable. This was to be our retirement touring rig.
I paid 4500 for the bike and have put another 500+ into it for the seat rebuild, side covers and paint, headlight and relays, plus hours of TLC.
I've priced it for quick sale as we are buying a new house and are short on cash for closing costs etc. But, I'm not going to give it away!
$4500 FIRM.
Thanks,
Steve

I like using the Lemans covers to match the bike when doing the carb upgrade. Never thought of doing that, I thought the only option was to cut the original ones. The seat looks nicely done, would you be willing to share whom did that for you?
Good luck with the sale.
-
Did you buy it from a guy named Patrick Arnone?
-
>These things are mile munchers and given the right body type are extremely comfortable.
Amen to that!
Someone needs to do a fly and ride on this one. Catch the fall colors riding a Guzzi classic back home.

I got the seat cover on Ebay from a company in England and had a local shop install it and replace the top 1.5 inches of foam with Sargents closed cell foam.
Yes Charlie, I got the bike from Patrick. If you remember, I talked to you about the work you did on the bike before I bought it. It is a real nice bike and I hate to let it go.
-
Wish I had room in the garage. I always thought the SP was the perfect one up touring bike and yours is a beauty. I am also a fan of Manfred's work.

This is killing me! I'm going to BE in Maine already, this weekend, with my trailer, picking up another Guzzi. It would be so simple to load this one on at the same time...
Cheers,
Shaun

Shaun,
Maine's a big state, But I in the central Maine area near Waterville. With a trailer in tow you'd have room for all the spare parts. I'd even throw in a spare fairing (not the same color), and a bunch of SP parts from prior projects. So....half full or half empty???

Hi, Steve. I'll be in Windham, which doesn't appear to be too far from you.
Half full, from a certain perspective, but I already have 4 Guzzis (soon to be 5), and I am out of room. I'm already planning to sell one of them, but haven't decided which one yet. That, and I live in Canada, so have to make advance arrangements with US Customs to export. I don't think it's practical, and my ever-patient wife is starting to talk about launching an intervention, so probably best not to pursue it. I do love SPs, though, particularly in that color combo. With the Raceco engine, someone's going to get a really nice bike. Good luck with the sale!
Cheers,
Shaun

I find myself making excuses too, as to why I'm not buying this bike I like so much that's up for sale at a decent price.
They're pretty good excuses, but I've bashed my way past good excuses before ....

Shaun,
I read your response aloud to my wife in the other room, knowing the response ( major- deep- guttural- laugh) I'd get. There is a sense of commiseration among our significant others which in some way reconciles their acceptance of "our passion" for these machines. Truth be told, she shares the same passion!!

Hi, Steve.
You're very fortunate that your wife shares this crazy passion with you. I'm even luckier, I suppose, in that my wife does not share my passion, but does support me in it beyond any reasonable expectation. Honestly, when I mentioned your bike, her immediate answer was "Well, it makes sense to pick it up while we're down there already". Well, perhaps not quite "immediate". There was what I call the "glare period" first. However, all the reasons for not buying it are very real, and I think I'll have to practice restraint, this time. That said, if it's still available in a couple of weeks (doubtful), I will have to hop on a plane and do a fly'n'ride! Haven't done that since I bought my V11 Le Mans in Florida back in 2010!
Cheers,
Shaun

Shoot, even I am looking and I don't need any more bikes. I'd consider it if I didn't have the Spot.

Looked at this a couple of days ago and told myself no. Looked at it again yesterday and managed to walk away from the iPad. I am looking at it again today. So, OK...
What is the recommended luggage solution for these and can that luggage still be aquired? I'm thinking Hepco Becker but dont know if the brackets would be available? Also, any input on these for 2 up touring. The seat seems pretty long but I had an '83 Lemans and it wasn't comfortable for my wife at all. How different is this really?
Oh, and how is the weather in Maine now?
-
Givi makes universal hardware which will work and I assume Hepko Becker does the same. I had Krauser bags on my previous SP and you can find them on Ebay from time to time. You can mount just about any top case to the rack factory rack. Comfort is very subjective but my wife and I made three cross-country trips on our old SP back in the late eighties. The seat and peg arrangement is worlds apart from an Lemans 3. Weather today is Fall crisp. Temp in high 50's but warming to around 70 on Monday.

Hepco setup looks nice. So does the seat.

Long legs always look good.

A Spada/Unigo setup would be cool. No bags needed.

HepcoBecker bought out Krauser and the HB bags are interchangeable w/Krauser frame. I have this setup on my CX100 right now. All you have to do is buy the HB bag latches that screw right on the Krauser frame.
I also have the Unigo trailer I've pulled behind my CX.

I am getting serious about this bike, but fitting some good luggage is a must. I checked the givi site and they list nothing for this bike. Curiously, I checked HB and they separately list luggage mounts for 1980 1000SP, 1981-1982 1000SP, and 1985-1987 1000SP. This implies to me they are different, and that the 1983 isn't covered. I don't think they made an '84? Anyway, I really don't know where I can get the mounting hardware besides hoping I get lucky on EBay, and I am NOT feeling lucky.

I really like that setup! Is that a wider tank on that bike?

Any good metal fabricator could take a set from the models that are available and fix what doesn't fit properly (if there IS anything that doesn't fit).

Sold! you say. Good, I'll sleep better now, although it might take awhile for another one like that to come along.
Did it go to one of us or is it none of our business?

Congrats to who ever got this beautiful bike!
It's a Guzzi classic.
Some of us think Spada's are the best of the Tonti Guzzi's.
Mike

It went to "one of us" though not a frequent contributor. Bill Ross of Bonneville land speed fame. I think he still holds a class record on a Guzzi. Great guy!
Thanks for all the interest!

Good for you Steve... and Bill. :thumb:
