Title: Cenatuaro owners! What kind of gas mileage are you getting?
Post by: JJ on October 08, 2015, 05:10:13 PM
Sorry for all the questions, but I like listening to the voices of experience! (lol)

Two questions:

1. What kind of city . highway mileage are you getting?  I am averaging 28-30 MPG around town, and I am not flogging it too badly.  Completely stock motor, no Creedon chip, no Stucchi cross-over, etc.

2. What do you recommend to improve the MPG overall?

Thanks in advance.

Mine was in the mid-40s, rural riding. Creedon chip was the only mod. New owner reports low-40s average.

I don't get anywhere near those numbers.

I have burned through a full tank in 161 miles, and also in 90 miles.

We've already talked about this, JJ.. Your trim pot is no doubt set at full rich to cover up the fueling issues.

I no longer have the Centauro. But I would easily get down around 30MPG if I worked the fun grip. I also once got near 55MPG following a friend poking along with a sidecar rig.
I had burned my own chip. Most people tweak the idle mixture screw too rich to keep it idling.

@ Chuck - Yes, I remember you that, but "too rich" is better than "too lean" for that OHC 4V motor, yes?

Also, a friend riding behind me said he could "smell" the gas from my bike.  So, would a Power Commander and/or Will Creedon chip fix this issue?

After riding it several hundred miles, I also notice this is a distinct "flat spot" at about 4,000 RPM where it sometimes "wallows" until you twist the throttle, then it goes away.

between 36 and 42 mpg with a 92 Daytona 1000. Depends on the temperature outside.
it has a stock P8 chip and, a stucci cross-over and polished camshafts (by peter Horvath)

Turn the idle mixture trim.
Don't apply 'fixes and tweaks' of the base is out of whack.
