Besides that may not be a traffic jam, it may be a parking lot for a Mc Donalds'

Someone's head will roll - professionally. Major screw up that usually calls for a whipping boy, especially if the F.U. resulted in international note.
I wonder what the new "check point" was for? Agriculture, security....?
I remember being at the overpass at Desert Center in California several years back during an epic (two lane) jam up from all the way up to L.A.
I was intending to go to L.A. and had rolled of at DC to get fuel just as the back up was reaching that point. By the time I decided to head back east instead - they were already running emergency gasoline and water out to cars which had run out or were overheating and were unable to run the air conditioners in the heat let alone move out of the way.
I pulled out my binos and there were people actually bar-b-queing off the shoulder.
Surreal, a bit unsettling and rather apocalyptic, that.
And that, was 2 lanes on a U.S. holiday weekend.

That reminds me................. ...15? years ago 2 of us were riding our Guzzis to meet another Guzzisti @ Primm, Nev. casino on our way to a rally. We started @ Sacramento and he started @ Burbank. Between Baker and Primm(on Nev. border) on Hwy 15 there was a long backup due to a wreck miles ahead. My riding partner didn't split lanes, whereas I did. Now it's night time. I told him, look, I'm not sitting here who knows how long like all these cars....I'm lane splitting. You can do what you want. So I split lanes for MILES !!!.........finally getting to the casino entrance past midnight! My riding partner shows up a few minutes later. :thumb:

No, they aren't allowed besides the size limit for motorcycle engines until recently was 125cc
Chang Jiang sidecars are I think 750 but they are classed as sidecars and they wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding in there stock form, the good ones have been upgraded with beamer engines.
This is the Chang Jiang that picked me up at the hotel and took me to the great wall.

The driver would fit in with this crowd, I gave him the Guzzi shirt off my back, Easy-rider, the young guy on the back came along as interpreter.

I had a go at pilot but could barely keep it pointing down the road, was glad to give it back.
The concierge at the hotel wasn't too pleased to see the bike cluttering up the forecourt

The helmets were for show purposes only, the strap was missing on the one I was given.

China is trying to catch up to being a car culture 1st. Prestige is to have a car. Looks like a Buick is a favorite if a Mercedes or BMW is too expensive for them. They want Western goods and a Western style house too. Motorcycles are viewed as recreational and small displacement. A large displacement isn't on the radar for most.
