Are the straight spoke cast wheels that were used a second choice on some SP's and LM2's lighter than the bent spoke cast wheels ? This is probably a question for Euro and Guzzisti in other countries as none of the aforementioned bikes were fitted with straight spoke wheels for USA bikes, but what the hay, fire away if you know

Mid '70s Tontis had a Lester spoke mag option, which is tubless in theory and in my opinion attractive in a paleo-industrial sort of way. Lesters had 7 straight spokes -- most designs have 5, 6, or 8 spokes, so the number makes them stand out from the crowd. They're significantly heavier than an EV tubless rim. Can't say about any other.
They clean up good and take powder coating very well.

Thanks RK,.As much as I would love a set of Lesters on my LM1, they don't come by easily. If anyone has a set, please chime in. the cast wheels I was originally referring to are the Bezzi straight spoke type which were used as a secondary option when Guzzi was out of FPS bent spoke wheels . Saw a few on Tonti BB's in Europe . Same design on some small blocks (different rim/ hub sizes) so I was curious about the weight thing. Bent spokes cast wheels seem kinda heavy although I did not weigh them when swapping tires a couple of months ago

I think all Lesters can be run tubeless, but some have the extra ridge to keep the bead in place if you're running tubeless and get a flat. I've seen older Lesters without the ridge.

The `80s Guzzi bent spoke mags are heavy but can be converted to tubeless. The Lester mags are much lighter. I've had both. Don't know how much the V7 similar looking bent spoke mags weigh. :undecided:

This is the type of wheel I was referring to http://www.ebay.com/itm/Moto-Guzzi-Front-Wheel-Rim-EWM-1981-2-15X18-Spada-1000SP-Tonti-/111791184697?hash=item1a07461b39&vxp=mtr

Best,
Peter

Related to the topic -- if someone was actively looking for the rim . . . .

These are set up tubeless. Just came off the bike last week, haven't even cleaned them yet. Decided to get the pix out there anyway.

Yo, Earmike, perhaps this being a free market economy means that anyone can buy anything from anyone, but, I started this thread and mentioned I was interested in Lester Mags. Now , after mentioning that Mike can choose to sell his wheels to whomever he likes, its not just not good manners to swoop in and offer to buy stuff out from under someone who already expressed interest earlier on in (his) post.. in a small community good manners do count. Just saying...
-
fear not, I'm not eating the shipping to OZ... Actually I'm not eating shipping anywhere...

Perhaps you've misunderstood, someone has mentioned they have wheels for sale & I have previously mentioned chasing some alloy wheels for my LeMans. I've no intention of "swooping in" IF you decide you want the wheels & mtiberio is happy to sell them to you that's great and no issue for me.
BUT I'm not going to be shy about registering my interest & I put it out there publicly for that very reason, if I wanted to "swoop in" I'd have done it on the quiet.

thanks for picking up my poor communication skills, I was thinking the physical act of lodging with the post vs paying the shipping rather than seeing if I could find a local to do it.
Of course it sounds like guzzista is keen.
I'm just after a set of lighter tubeless rims, if you come across a pair or even a front in your shed I'd be interested.
Cheers

just to sort it out...
I posted to Guzzista's thread, he gets first dibs.
I also posted to the swap meet section
earemike responded first on 10/21
mguzzi next on 10/22 at 8am
harrytief next on 10/22 at 8pm
and
guzzista on 10/22 at 12pm
even though guzzista responded last, it was his thread that prompted me, so like I said he gets first dibs, then the order will be based on when I was PM'd
Not interested in more than I asked this in not a bidding war... However, I do have a cush drive assembly and a set of front wheel flanges to make these a bolt on for a 195mm front end bike (T, T-3, Convert, G-5, Lemans II, CX-100) which I would like to sell as a package deal for $500. Package deal taker takes prescedence.
-
guzzista has passed on the wheels, too much expense for him to fit them to his lemans one.
