A few of us will be headed out from Houston on Friday Oct 23 morning to enjoy the Harvest Classic in Luckenbach, with a planned Hill country ride on Saturday (likely to include a loop down thru Sisterdale, the Bat Cave Tunnel, a ride to Comfort and over to Vanderpool (Lone Star Moto Museum), lunch at Lost Maples State Park and then a loop back around), so we'll get part of the 3 Twisted Sisters during the day.
http://www.harvestclassic.org/
Saturday night's movie will be the story about Moto GP (narrated by Brad Pitt...subject of a previous post on here).
Hope to see some of you there...we should have 3-4 riding out (myself (Norge), maybe Tom (Stelvio), Rob (Griso), Fraser (Triumph)).
Anyone else from Houston want to join the caravan...more than welcome!
-
Dang Paul , the organizers are raffling off three MCs , everyone desirable . Unfortunately it is 500 miles for me , half that and the Jackal would be there . You guys take pics please , this is a great event .

If Waylon shows up give me a call, I'll be right there! Have a good time and ride safe! :boozing:
-
I'd sure like to be there, sounds like fun. Brad Pitt and I went to different schools together in Springfield, Mo.
-

Thanks! The Best of Waylon will be music for the ride out along the whole way!
Dusty...aren't those raffles tempting!! :) We'll toast to the Jackal from Hill Country!
-
Travel safe. My riding group is doing the three sisters that weekend as well.

Thanks Fisherman...are you guys headed out Friday as well - taking the slab or the scenic route to Kerrville or Bandera?
We may see you on the road in Spring or Woodlands or on our side of town one day.
Cheers,
-
We will take the scenic route. I'm not sure if the details but I know we're stopping at Black's in Lockhart for lunch. Then on to Kerrville. Most are staying in hotels, but I'm camping at Schreiner Park. Are yall camping in Luckenbach?

Nice! A righteous plan there...Black's is a mandatory stop no doubt! Fun ride from there onto Comfort and Kerrville.
This time we are staying in a hotel in Fredericksburg - camping at Harvest is akin to an all night Frat party with the 3 am burnouts, so we're going to hotel it this time. Not so peaceful as the Guzzi rallies of the last couple weekends (Lindale and Talihina) where you can get some great rest under the stars. Schreiner park is a great place to camp...just passed thru there in August...lots of paddle boarders out on the water!
-
I'm booked in the Armadillo campground a half mile from the show. Taking the Toy Hauler and hope to take both Guzzis to show (if I can get a new rear tire for the EV).
I plan to spend a few days in San Antonio and maybe Port A / Rockport if I feel ambitious. Expect a week, perhaps two, south of the Red River.
I think there is another thread, perhaps we can get it merged?
-
Easy ride from Austin. l go every year.
-
I'm going to try to make the ride from Dallas on Friday but that depends on the work schedules of the usual suspects that I ride with.
-
Hey...a nice collection of Guzzisti should be well represented at Harvest! Maybe we should pool our funds to win one of the raffles and then do a Timeshare of the Bike we win, every person gets it for 1 month of the year! :)
-
we definitely should meet up and exchange phone numbers.
perhaps we can reconnoiter at my travel trailer for refreshments?

By all means...and I think our friend Dave the Barber and a few other Louisiana boys will also be camping at Armadillo's! Could be a good Rendezvous at LowRyters! :)
-
Burn ban in Gillespie and all surrounding counties. No campfires at Harvest Classic this year. Darn no smores.

I'll see y'all there then as I'll be riding out on the Griso on Saturday. Always a good time out there and it supports a really great cause.

PJPR01, How are you going to ride Saturday and still make the show?

PJPR01, How are you going to ride Saturday and still make the show?
Paul can be in two places at once , something to do with his facility with accents
Dusty

I am going to try to make this. Not sure of specifics yet, but it's on my list.
-
Wait a minute...I am back in town and retired...need to get some sleep and think about this...
-
PJPR01, How are you going to ride Saturday and still make the show?
Good point...begrudgingl y I have to admit that the Saturday longer ride proposal may have to be only a 1/2 day run so we can enjoy most of the day at the show. I believe I'll have to modify plans accordingly! Maybe an earlier Friday morning departure to enjoy a run around Hill Country and then spend the day Saturday at the show/evening film etc/Armadillo Willy's refreshments afterwards! Too many things to do...I also wanted to hike up Enchanted Rock again since I did that the last time out there.
If only I could get Thursday or Monday off as well, but unfortunately not this weekend.
-

To paraphrase Yoda...."cue accent"...Young Jedi Master...There is no Try, only Do! :)
-
I'd actually like to show my bikes on Saturday. If I can get them cleaned up and loaded by next week. And I still need tires and brakes on the EV which I have to take so Bev can ride with me.
But I plan to stay another week or so and visit San Antonio and perhaps the beach.
-
Well then...we'll definitely have to come by and vote for them and show Guzzi support! I'm guessing my Norge is too modern to show! :)
-
Call me Jar-Jar Binks on this one...recovering and catching up from gone 3 weeks of the last four. All camp stuff still in storage and crap repair company that did upstairs won't answer phone calls. You guys have fun. Likely I will go for ride this weekend. Need new rear tire on V7R--will get that ball rolling. Luckenbach is a fine town, enjoy. Eventually I will start participating.
-
I'll be wandering around at Harvest. See you there.

Harvest classic is 9 days away...more than enough time to get a new tire from MPH, pull out camping gear etc. It's not this Friday, but the following Friday/Saturday...weather permitting, should be a delightful ride to hill country.
-
Don't even know how to get all of our upstairs belongings back....unbelievabl e. We are trying to get thru to the company. Bunch of jerks.
May get new tire on this weekend if I can get Ms. LD to do a pickup and drop off.
Long ride for this tired puppy.

Waylon and Willie have cancelled other shows. May want to check on this one.
If Waylon shows up things will get REALLY strange Jack . In Texas , they called Willie " Won't show up Willie"

I've seen some of the ride ideas. The sisters is pretty ambitious for Saturday if you want to spend any time at the event.
l can lead the guzzi gaggle on a nice 100-130 mile ride with a break for finest bbq in Texas if anyone is interested.
-
Correct...likely to be a shorter ride on Saturday than my original plan to be able to enjoy most of the day at the Festival. Perhaps just a morning ride out and about for 4 hours...we can cover some interesting roads in that time. We may get there early enough on Friday to do a Hill Country ride after checking in to the hotel as well...lunch in Fredericksburg and then a ride around.
If you guys want to shoot me a PM with your phone numbers, then I can send a group text out and arrange for a common meeting point/time so everyone gets the notice.
Cheers,
Paul
-
Paul , are you El Norte ? Do you want to stickie this, not a Guzzi event , but still ...
Dusty
-
newsflash:
Better stay clear of Austin, it's F1 weekend there. I plan to be at the show on Saturday and ride on Sunday. There's BBQ and a movie.
we need to get a phone list together.
-
Paul , are you El Norte ? Do you want to stickie this, not a Guzzi event , but still ... Dusty
Thanks Dusty...still in El Sur until next week, not yet back in El Norte! :) That would be great to sticky it!
Totally agree on missing Austin, we're likely to skirt underneath most likely thru Lockhart or San Marcos over the backway.
I'm happy to collect phone #'s if folks want to PM me with their name/number and then I'll send a group text out.
It's an easy 4 hour ride back to Houston so a Sunday morning ride also would be great, after a stop at the German bakery for some Mohnkuchen (poppy seed cake)!
-
Lucydad,
If you are truly game about going to Harvest Classic, you can rent gear at REI for the weekend. I could lend you a 3 person tent which pops up in 30 seconds Rob will be driving out towing his Griso in my trailer so you could throw your gear into the truck and just ride. Looks like we may have 5-6 folks from Houston headed out and at lest that many to meet up with in Luckenbach.
Mike has kindly offered to lead a ride on Saturday morning...meeting around 9-930 at the German bakery in town for coffee and pastries and then we ride about 100-140 miles loop back to Luckenbach to enjoy the show.
More details coming as the date gets closer.
-
Plenty of rain forecast for the weekend...should make for some interesting riding Friday heading out there, I hope the Saturday show and movie is not a washout completely due to weather. May have to wear the Souwester!
Saturday's ride may be weather dependent, or perhaps cojones dependent, depending on how bad the rain is. Pity too as Texas Hill Country makes for great riding...I'm sure Formula 1 practice on Saturday will be interesting too, although Sunday looks dry enough!
Rain gear...extra clothing...hot coffee in the Hydro Flasks and plenty of patience on the road out.
Thanks to those who sent me your phone #'s...if anyone else wants to meet up on Saturday morning for a coffee/pastry at the main German bakery, even if we don't go for a ride...aiming to be there around 9 am for a meetup.
Bis bald...A bientot...Hasta la Vista baby!

There is a good chance that my guys will cancel the trip due to the forecast. I'm still going. I am PMing you with my number as I would like to ride out with yall if you can accommodate another bike.
-
despite having an RV spot paid and planning for a Texas vacation for another week or so, I am not enamored going there and sitting in the rain. Forecast is 100% rain on Friday and 90% on Saturday.
I wonder if there is a rain out date? Looks like a rain or shine deal.
dang it. last time I went to Kerrville 4 years ago it rained cats and dogs and hadn't rained there before in about 5 years. Now it's going to rain this weekend and I bet it hasn't in the last 4 years.
-
Low,
I'm still on the fence. Raining hard in Galveston as I write this a little over 3in so far today. Quarter of inch was predicted. Weather prediction is a crap shoot at best.
Those planning to attend. Be respectful of flash flooding normally sedate Shoal Creek flooded my house X2 when I lived in Austin.
If I make it it will be in my Vandominium, but I may pack the little Stone along in case the weather for casters are wrong yet again.
Dave

PS
Sending a smoke signal to LA to see what the Lafayette crew is up to.
-
yeah, flash floods in Hill Country are pretty common. anyone riding there should beware of high water crossings even in the San Antonio, Austin, San Marcos.
I might just leave next week. I want to cruise around San Antonio and Port Aransas. The HC was just part of it. I'll take the Cali and leave the Sport at home. I might check if the Armadillo Campground would allow my deposit on camping next week.
-
I'm with you guys...all 4 of my riding buddies from Houston have just bailed a few minutes ago due to rain.
I will make a last minute call as well here...no fun riding in flash floods or monsoons...even if Sunday will be nice, it will be messy.
Pity...let's hope for a sudden high or low front to move in and clear out this crappy weather!
Looks like we may have to rendezvous another time!
-

Shoot me your number...you are most welcome to ride along at any time. I'll make the call very last minute on whether I head out though...
80% chance of hard thundershowers doesn't look like much fun however for a 220 mile trip to more rain...would have to be too cautious. The only nice day is Sunday...would only get in 1/2 day of Hill Country riding before having to head back.
If you're up for it, will add you to the list of riders I normally send a note out to for riding on the weekends though...glad to have you join us or vice versa.
Cheers.
-
Dangut . sorry fellas
Dusty
-
I am thinking about heading down next week. I'll spend a few days in Luckenbach if they honor my camping deposit. Otherwise I'll just head straight to San Antonio and Port Aransas. The Mrs and I can cruise around on the EV. The Greenie stays at home.
-
That makes more sense John...weather forecast continues to be dismal for this weekend. I'm wondering how they are even going to put on a movie at night with the rain forecast.
What a pity...still hoping for a last minute change of weather pattern, but it doesn't look good at this point...may just have to clean the bike this weekend instead of riding it! :)
-
I was looking forward to meeting up with you guys if the good lords willing and the creeks don't rise. Well the creeks are gonna rise. I've paid my dues camping in the rain so I'm pulling the plug on this one. See you next time.

No worries...next time around!
I'm beginning to think we have the makings of Spike Lee's movie "If God Is Willing and da Creek Don't Rise "

Just cancelled my reservation at Armadillo Farm Campground.
Weathered many a deluge in the hammock, but the very real threat of flash flooding makes this a no go for me.
David Welch saved our bike and possibly our lives by waking us in time to evacuate up the hill at Luap's rally. Gave me real respect for rising water.
Ask some of the old timers  (not me) about Money Creek.
Young bucks don't let your big cajones outweigh your common sense.
Hopefully better weather for Swamp Scooters Part Deux.

You're right Dave...At this point given the weather forecast, pretty sure no one is headed that way this weekend...would be more fun to head out in the Land Rover rather than the Guzzi just in case with an empty trailer and provide towing services! :)

You will lose your 1st night. I don't know much else. Just give her a call. I paid for three nights in advance. I am being refunded two.

thanks. I'd like to go there next week and then head east to San Antonio and Port Aransas.
-
I did cancel my reservation at the Armadillo. The lady was so defensive about me losing the deposit that I just gave up on trying to reschedule my visit there. I think I'll skip it and go straight to San Antonio.
-
She did not ask me for a deposit, just an assurance that I was not trailering with a truck as she had no more room for anything but could probably squeeze in a solo bike camper in a pup tent. She said they operate on the honor system. I tried to call her back on Tuesday to cancel but I got a recording saying the phone lines were down and not to leave a message, so I didn't.
I saw where Kerrville city park is a cheap place to camp but I have not been there to see what it is like. It might be a good base camp for hill country run. Too far from Lukenbach for Harvest C I think.
-
5 inches of rain in Austin already and more on the way. even wetter in some places west. The Harvest Classic site says it's still on but I can't believe many people will show up.
Will be interesting to see what happens with the F1 race.
-
I can't imagine they're enjoying themselves very much with the down pouring rain and flooding...would be a mud fest at best. Saturday's Formula 1 practice will be interesting...total ly different track conditions for Sunday!
-
I'm sure I'm not surprising anyone, but I've officially bailed on Luchenbach. Dang, was really looking forward to that and kept hoping the weather would not be as bad as forecasted.
Is anyone going? Now I'm morbidly curious.
-
Started over last night, kept running into standing water, Huntsville is still fairly dry, so am calling this a wash.
-

you could've just camped at the rally for the price of admission. I was bringing my travel trailer. I wonder how the rally is going today?
-
I've camped at the rally numerous times. Last time I went, there were some obnoxious people in the campground that ruined it for me and a lot of others. At that point I decided I'd had enough of that rally (after going for many years). This year I thought I would be smart and try the Armadillo. I have staid at a hotel in town but it is lacking the character of the camp.
-
Armadillo is definitely the way to go. Quiet rule is enforced and owner will kick out the rowdies if the aren't cooperative. Last time I camped at the rally I was awake half Friday night by rowdies. Porta Potties were overflowing by Sat, stayed for the bike drawing then rode to New Braunfels to stay at my niece's. Won't camp at rally again.

well, good info for next year, since they didn't postpone this year's.
-
Hey guys...just a wild idea...but how about a meet up the 2nd weekend of November in the same location, or closer perhaps Austin for a weekend of riding loops and a mini rally. Leave Friday morning/afternoon to destination, ride all day Saturday, maybe part of Sunday and then head back...
I know the 2nd weekend of November is Swamp Scooters and some have committed to that already, but anyone else who may not be going to old King Louis state if interested, let me know.
Cheers!

Hoping this year is not a frog strangler, and we can make it out again for a nice weekend of Hill Country riding! Last year's flooding deterred most of us from heading out there...
Headed out to camp at Garner State Park and Lost Maples this coming weekend for a few days of riding...hoping a month from now can be sitting in Luckenbach for a little fun as well.
Perhaps some of the other folks who were interested in going last year may be able to attend this year.
-
Don't believe Waylon will be there .

May ride into Luckenbach Saturday of the rally. Can't miss Swamp Scooters. Would jeopardize my standing as an honorary coonass.

The Mrs and I are planning to take the toy hauler and head to San Antonio and Port Aransas in late Oct. Who knows if our plans will come true but it's worth considering again. I'd forgotten about the FC.
Last year I made reservations at the designated RV park and then when when flooding was forecast, I tried to transfer to another date but they wouldn't do it and kept my deposit. I'd like to go but I won't deal with that outfit.
