I am itching to get another café racer. I had 2014 Triumph Thruxton that I really enjoyed riding and fiddling with, but I traded it in on my Norge. Here is a pic of it with nearly all of my modifications to it (I think all it is missing are the fork gaiters that I added shortly afterwards):

I had been thinking about getting a V7 Racer, but I wanted to wait for the V7 II version. (I want ABS and a six-speed tranny.) Now that it is out in the U.S., I don't like the look of it nearly as well as I used to (other than the red frame).
So, I am debating getting the new version of the V7 Racer and fiddling with it (replacing the tank, removing the number plates and fly screen, lowering the headlight and gauges, replacing the cheap exhaust with something more worthy of the bike, etc.); getting a V7 II Stone and fiddling with it; or waiting to see the new Triumph and Moto Guzzi offerings later this month or next... Sigh!
Anyone else got the café racer bug? If so, what have you done about it?

Those urges are long gone from my psyche, these days. But just in case, I have a built in warning system in my lower back. Good luck in your search for the right bike and I like your approach of fiddlin' and tweaking till you have it perfect.

I think a V7R would be pretty good, in that it is low and has moderate power. I wouldn't mind finding an older Tonti if I sell my Sport 1100, and making something up.

Or wait for the new water cooled Triumphs that seem to be in the works.

Theres nothing compares o a nice cafe built from an old round head Tonti bike. If done properly, it can be pretty comfortable , and ergonomic. I think it would be a fun project, that I have considered myself a few times, and have on my bucket list.
good luck,
Rick.
