Title: Swamp Scooters Part Deux November 14 and 15 Lafayette, LA
Post by: davedel44 on October 17, 2015, 02:37:38 PM
Just in from our Cajun Compatriotes in Lafayette.

There will be a Campout, a NAR, a Gaggle whatever you'd like to call it Lafayette on Nov 14 and 15.

This event isn't an official rally, so don't expect catered meals, funny mc games, a gumbo cookoff or the other rally accoutrements.

Do expect tall tales by the campfire, great camaraderie and a chance to experience the unique culture and scenery of Southern Louisiana.

Bring what you need and need what you bring!  Don't worry if you forget something the campground is 5 minutes from civilization.

Don't fret about starving, the Lafayette areas boasts some of the best restaurants in the nation.  Oh and did I say the locals are friendly.

The Particulars:

Held at the location of the previous Swamp Scooters Rally

Bayou Wilderness RV Resort
201 St. Clair Road
Carencro, Louisiana 70520
Lafayette Parish
337-896-0598
www.bwrvr.com

Campers who do not need electrical hookups $10.00/night
We will be camping in the big pasture adjacent to the RV sites.  Plenty of room to spread out.
Park has a bath house with restrooms and hot showers.

If you need a campsite with electric hookups or an RV site please contact the Park.

As an official RCA Registered Coon Ass I "aint worrin' 'bout' nothin'"  like location.  I just plan to drive around the Lafayette area stopping at every little gumbo shak, po' boy stand and drive thru daiquiri barn till I find it or run out of gas.

Post updated Nick.

Darn salt air!  Corrodes the rims on the big Stone and does strange things to the interweb too.

Rudy,

Call soon to reserve an RV spot.  There is usually a RV Club from Quebec down the same weekend.  Although since this is not officially Swamp Scooters spaces may not be hard to come by.

I know you and Rose like spicy food so you'll be right at home.  Hope you can make it.

BTW bought some of that garlicky chili sauce.  That stuff is  good on everything!

Hope to be there. But it will be a trailer rally for this Yankee in the great white north. Maybe we can talk Mary into making a pot of gumbo.

We lived in Lafayette five years, and loved the food, culture and music.

This is a possible trip, but not on the dreaded I-10 slab nightmare.  Alternative routes?

Definite maybe.

What are the nighttime temps down there? Would like to leave sleeping bag here if I don't need it.

Last year wasn't to bad with temps in the mid 40s. Year before was upper 30s and totally formed the way I pack for this rally. I know it may be more trouble to bring extra gear but it's a lot easier to adjust for warm rather than cold if not properly prepared.

I usually bring a three season bag, rated to 30 - 35 degrees.  Most of the time end up sleeping on top of it, but that's fine because  I don't do cold.

I have a couple of friends asking to tag along. Is this camp out still on?

3 Texas riders headed out Friday.
I'll be in late afternoon depending on how much I dawdle.

Plan to ride coastal rout if weather nice.

Weather looks good, lows in the 50's highs in the 60's.  I plan to ride over Sat. morning but may make it Friday if I can slip out early from work.

Enjoyed the camp out. Glad I made the trip. A small camp out with 10 or 15 people is just as good, or maybe better, than a large rally. Every one gets to meet everyone else and we all fit around the camp fire. Left Sunday morning about 8:15 and planned to ride half way home and get a motel for the night. Well, the weather was good and the bike was running great so about 100 miles west of Tallahassee I decided to make a run for home. Got home at 10:30pm after roughly 725 miles. Perfect day of riding that I am now celebrating with a few adult beverages.
