WOW. What a race. I won't spoil it other than say lots of passing action. It was a near equal battle of Yamaha handling vs Ducati/Honda horsepower. And it's a race track that even has obstacles like seagulls.
See this race even you aren't a fan. It's that good.
-
It was the best MotoGP race I've ever watched. It will be rebroadcast tonight on FoxSport2 tonight.
-
I was about to head to bed after SNL when I saw the DVR light come on. WTH?
I switched it over.
-
Great to see Iannone/Ducati do so well!
-
Talk about getting the bird, holy crap!

What time? I can't find it listed.

Holy Bike-a-zoids, Batman! THAT was a race.

Great to see Iannone/Ducati do so well!
I think Ducati finally has the bike. They don't have the rider yet, but the kid is coming along fast. Good luck to them.

Best races I have seen in a long time.

Yup ............ agreed, that was an exciting one............. was hoping they would run slow mo on the Duck whacking the gull...... only cost him one spot after that carnage.
Ciao.
-
Wasn't it Fogerty that whacked a gull at PI circa 1995 ?

I think the bike only works on certain tracks. Joe Maniac is good jockey and was nice guy when we saw him in Austin.

Ianonne said the seagull put a hole in his fairing. It looked like the hit decapitated the bird. Bird hits at that track are not that rare, unfortunately. The track is right next to the ocean. Some times the rider get's hurt too.
If you go to http://superbikeplanet.com/newind.htm you can read the riders remarks of the race.

It isn't slo-mo but it does tell the story: that gull isn't going to roost tonight.

Great race for sure, the Duc had some big top end power!
-
Dont forget ducati has 2 more liters of fuel per race, and 7 more engines per year than honda or yamaha. They can run a fresher/hotter motor and run richer on fuel.
This does not take anything from Iannone's effort

My DVR was set to record but got a football game. The FS2 race at 11 is Moto2. Not too happy, first MotoGP race I've missed in years and it was apparently a great one.
-
Great race! Phillip Island holds a special allure for me, I had the great fortune of living in Australia for 4 years, and attended both WSB and 500GP multiple times in the late 90's at Phillip Island. What a wonderful venue for racing, both the track and setting on the ocean with the Bass Straight right by the track. I actually rode my Yamaha FJ1100 in anger around Phillip Island on a track day years ago, which is still one of my greatest memories....didn't hit a seagull fortunately, but did down a few Four'N Twenty meat pies there......
-
Yeah! Found the race on video, well worth staying up.
-
Yeah, the bird took out a winglet on Crazy Joes fairing on impact. :cheesy: It paid the ultimate price.

I got the end of that game but just FF about 15 minutes (or so) and found the race.. I have my DVR set to record an extra hour after the show setting in case this happens.
-
I don't think FS2 ever did a replay
-
FS2 may have shown the replay midday instead of evening pacific time Sunday. Or maybe they will show it later.
-
MotoGP.com. It is a bit expensive but covers every aspect of a race weekend from practice sessions and qualifying to the choice of six different screen angles during all three races. Races from 1992 forward. If you want white noise: pick a rider cam and shutoff the commentary. A full race as the racers hear it....
Might add that I don't have a commercial television package as a monthly bill.
-
My wife and I were lucky enough to attend this race on the weekend, what a great day, beautiful weather, not too crowded. The only bummer was that the riders couldn't do a victory lap as spectators get on the track trying to get to the podium.
-
Wow, what a crazy race. I loved it!I was seriously out of breath just watching it. I wonder how much better Maniac Joe would have done had he had both his wings still in tact (pun intended). I'm curious, what do you guys think? Would it have had a positive impact?

I doubt it. If Dovi had them too he didn't do so well. Like pointed out the Ducatis fare better on some tracks than others, as do the other brand bikes too.

Way cool :thumb: PI always looked like a great spectator track in a wonderful location .

Troy Corser
Thanks . Good memory

Even top race participants in this OZ MotoGP race say it's the best race of the modern era. www.autosport.com/motogp/ :thumb:

If you thought the moto gp was good, go find the phillip island moto 3 race, that really was a take no prisoners, the crown depends on this race or the next, cliff hanger until the dust cleared.
Moto 2 by comparison put me to sleep.
-
Thanks . Good memory
Dusty
Been Australian just got into bikes and our man Troy wrapped up the WSBK championship that round, some things stick in your head.

Corser had a fair impact here in the states , always seemed a good bloke . Now that other nutter from OZ that raced here for so long with much great success , well , he is a bit , er , well , you know  Of course compared to a certain guy from America that had some success in SBK and the GP world , MM was a true gentleman

MM was all business and didn't care about being Mr. popularity. :boxing:
TC was true to his blue collar upbringing and appreciated for that.
MD hit the GP circus at the right time and had little real competition.
Of course all of them were top riders.

Some of the best contests ever have been from small displacement racing.
The fact you can hold 4 different lines through the same corner with the same exit speed makes for a lot of elbows and gestures.

So, VR thinks MM purposely blocked him so AI could get in front him and JL can then win the championship. That MM had enough speed to do that and still win the race, and passed JL at the end only because his competitive spirit took over, otherwise would have let JL win to get 5 more point to catch VR.
Interesting press conference.
-
Apps fair in love and war, but blocking for a non teammate is not kosher to me. Aside from that, I just don't care for JL.
-
Lorenzo had a seagull stick in his faring during practice a couple of years ago.
-
Tune in to Malaysia.
All the chips are on the table. No friends (maybe Lorenzo/Marc), no team instructions, no holds barred.
I've watched Rossi for almost twenty years; Biaggi was just the warm-up for this punch-up.
"Gentlemen: please be gentlemen... and start your engines!"
-
watching this on Tivo just now. That bird vaporized- wow!
What a beautiful track. Man it's great to see the Ducati up front.
Woo-hoo!!!
That's the finest 5 laps I've ever seen.

Bit harsh on MD. You could say the same for Rossi from 2001 to 2005. If memory serves me right MD almost beat Rainey to the title in 1992 despite sitting out a number of races after his Assen crash....

I was referring to all the years Mick dominated the GP series. The comparison was Oz road racers only, nothing more.
