Post by: azguzzirep on October 28, 2015, 03:15:31 PM
Hi all, Sie and I are doing just fine. Lots to See and do! AAS you know, we Holmes up with Pete Roper and bis wird, Jude last Werk. They are just great! Pete showedme hisshop and allthe buggered flat ta0et bits. Ugly stuff, that!

We are now on the North islandof NZ. We are doing to go to the Bay of Plenty today, then travel a bit south to stay with a Guzzi friend for a night. Then we will drive to Lake Taupo for hiking and go to Hawkes Bay to meet up with David Blackwell from the forum (injundave).

Thats all for now.

Sorry for the bad spelling, but the Tabletn changes the words. Cant turn it off.
Also cannot contact injundave. May have to pass on stopping in to say Hi.
Beautiful weather today!

Tom and Sue.

Update!

Sue and I are on the west coast of the south island of NZ in Greymouth. We are staying at a very cool hostel. Unfortunately, raining today, but not before we got in a hike to see a beautiful waterfall. Lots of lakes and rivers to see and enjoy!

The south island is quite different than the north island, as there is not nearly the same population of humans. Cows and sheep, yes, people no.

The roads are also not as good as on the northie. Very rough most places. Also, the maximum speed limit is 100 KPH.  But you don"t really need speed here. Too much to see. If you want to speed, come visit me in Germany!

I"ve discovered a NZ delicacy, meat pies! Mmm!! I also need to taste a NZ favorite, white bait, a small eel used in eggs and things. Supposed to be delicious.

Late now, time to go to bed after my glass of wine.

Cheers,

Tom

Tom,
If you like red, the Secret Stone, Marlborough, Pinot Noir is very good. It's pretty dear though. I got mine as a present

The west coast is known for it's rain. It's measured in meters per year further south.
Don't forget to try Pineapple lumps, oh and if you can get them, Jimies pies.

PS
I usually advise people to spend 3 days in the South for every one in the North.

If you like the odd sip of wine & you are going through Alexandra (in Central Otago), call in & visit Johnnie Chapman's cellar door at Como Villa and taste some of the wines there. Johnnie's the brother of a couple of local expat guzzisti, runs an interesting place, has some very nice wines, usually has time to chat, and he rides. Give him a ring to check whether he'll be around on +64 27 435 2931. He's only 3ks out of town along the river. A worthwhile stop, & give him our regards.

Wanaka Warbirds Museum is on the way, just out of Wanaka - old planes, spectacular old cars & a few old bikes.
