Now is the time to fill your order. Submitted a request this last Tuesday. Scheduled production time is on the 20th from email received yesterday.

The white Norges are kool. Maybe the cars will notice you.. :copcar:
Probably not.
-
Maybe I'll add 'Polizia' stickers on the saddle bags.

Yes, the new (probably taller than stock) saddle should help with the knee angle.
You could also consider swapping the stock pegs for Goldwing GL1800 pegs, that will gain you a little more leg room as well, and because they are wider than stock pegs, I find they have a really nice feel when riding -- I added a small rubber block near the pivit for the sidestand so it doesn't touch the peg -

It's true , they do notice you in the rearview mirror , and move out of the fast lane to let you pass ; or used to .
I noticed this when I had a white BMW R100 with RT fairing in the nineties . Wondered why freeway drivers were so considerate til I figured out they thought I was a cop coming up behind them . Have had other faired bikes and never experienced this level of courteousy ; so it's the white .

Wouldn't work around here; any police bike anyone has ever seen here in the past 50 years (or today) has been a dark gray/black Harley-Davidson. European-style white sport-tourers are just targets like any other motorcycle ...

Will Goldwing GL1800 pegs fit with no alterations?

I'll put the 'Badges' on both saddle bags. :azn:

White Bassa with a white Swanee fairing gets the same reaction around here. What spoils the illusion the most is my helmet - if I changed to an open face it would increase the illusion in the rear view mirror.

Put the Goldwing GL1800 pegs on my 1100 Breva, they really make a difference in comfort. You will need the Honda springs for them.

I take it, the Honda springs are easy to find?

Any Honda shop should be able to get them for you. They orderd mine and had them in a couple of days.

Thanks Dean, just dropped off saddle at FedEx for shipment to Russell.

The newer Norge must have a better design of the sidestand. Lower pegs on a 2-valve Norge requires sidestand mods. But it's worth it!

I think OP's idea was that this is a good time to get a RDL saddle...not what looks like a cop bike. At any rate, I'll agree that a RDL saddle makes long trips much better. On my Stelvio the last thing I think about is how my ass feels. The seating position is always perfect. Now, if I could get my bladder to line up with the 8.5 gallon gas tank I'd have a winning combo. Seriously, the RDL saddle is #1.

The Russell seats are meant to be ridden. I mean really ridden; like in 1000+ miles in a day, get up the next day and do another 1000+ day, and repeat. In spite of function taking priority over form, Russell's work is still very attractive to me and many others.

Local guys give me a lot of crap about my RDL on the Griso (I now have a custom seat for city riding so the RDL can take a rest) but I have never used a seat that let me go and go and go. Uber comfortable.
-
Anyone have one of these saddles on a Cali 1400? Comments, and pics if so please??
Jim
-
The Russell is the best (most comfortable) seat available.
-
I sure hope so, I still remember who turned me on to the Russell brand (Warchild).
-
Anyone able to compare an RDL to a Corbin...what makes it better? I've had my Corbin on the Norge for several years now, can't imagine what could be more comfortable...just curious.

Corbin's are like stock seats, except firmer, don't waste your money on them.

Totally disagree...I've had a Corbin on my BMW K1100LT and now also on my Norge for almost 5 years. Both were far superior to the stock seats....but that wasn't my question. Stock seats were good for 100 miles, Corbins have been good for all day riding...so I was trying to understand what makes a RDL much better than a Corbin...what specifically is different.

The Corbin is not custom made to fit you, Russell's are. When ordering a Russell you must include pictures of your riding position.
I will never buy another Corbin.

Ron,
I submitted the photos I took of your parts and summarized my findings along
with a description of the servicing that has been performed. I have been
informed that your bike does qualify for the updated parts. I will need to
charge for the labor, but Moto Guzzi will cover the kit cost. The Piaggio
system is down for maintenance this weekend but I will submit the necessary
information and get this in the works next week.

I have owned over seven Day Long seats. I've also owned a couple of Corbin seats. The main difference is that the Corbin is essentially a one size fits all and the Day Long is made for the riders weight & inseam plus how you sit on the bike. They require a picture of you sitting on your bike before they'll make the seat. If you think the Corbin is comfortable, you'd be more than doubly pleased with how comfortable the Day Long seat will treat your butt & upper leg areas. I bought my first two Day Longs from the inventor of the seat who later sold it to Russell. They still make them the same way that Bill Mayer made them until he sold the company. FYI; Bill Mayer had two sons who still make custom saddles but they cannot use the exact process to make their saddles that was patented and sold to Russell by their father.

I am calling Russell tomorrow on how they are going to modify my riding position. I may request even higher sitting position.
Production is scheduled on the 20th.

Excellent...thanks both...that was helpful, so truly customized, an interesting proposition! I suppose then if I ever wear out the Corbin, I'll try a RDL...sounds like it might be so comfortable, I'd never stop riding...maybe that's the ticket for doing an Iron Butt or Saddle Sore 1000 run!
The only thing I can see that I don't really like is the shape...those wings, which I'm sure add to the comfort just don't look great, but that's just my preference.
-
A unique feature of the Russell is that beneath those "wings" is a leaf spring that crosses the seat and adds suspension to the butt. This suspension is distributed to the riders posterior by the "wings." The bigger the butt, the bigger the wings.
For comfort, nothing works better. I have Corbins too but they are not in the league of the Russell.

I have Russell and Bill Mayer saddles, along with many others as I'm in the business. I have tons of customers who use Russell seats and almost as many who use Bill Mayer Saddles.
I prefer the BMS by quite a bit but both are very popular and sell very well.
-
Good info guys...thanks for the insights.
-
Ok, the wings and spring explain why my Bill Mauer Quota seat looks like a dead snapping turtle. Yes, it's comfortable, but...
Russel looks a bit better.
