Title: Guzzi Up...! Travelling by Stelvio.
Post by: radguzzi on November 13, 2015, 06:26:27 PM
A couple that we know in NH have a unique way of seeing the country on their Guzzi.

They started off a few months ago heading for Virginia, after the tour was done, about ten days later, they found a storage spot for the Stelvio, one of the small rental garage space, self storage places and left it, flew home.

About three months later they headed back to retrieve the Guzzi and motored for Florida, next was Texas.  After that...?  Who knows.

What a cool way to see the country.  Right now they are in New Mexico and I am not certain where they will stop this time to fly home.  They post lots of photos as they tour, fun stuff.

Best,
Rob

They have motorcycles at home as well so leaving the Stelvio is not a problem.

That is a great way to travel. I met a couple when travelling in Africa who did something similar. They'd do three months or so, park up and head back home to Alaska. They were retired and had the time, and desire to leave the Alaskan winter - sounds good to me though.

Rider Magazine had an article about touring the country this way in 2014. Excellent read and looks like a great way to tour. That couple had multiple bikes though, so they could leave one at home.

I read that article and thought about it, and mapped out a potential plan.

Only downside is the cost of airline tickets.   It's like a crapshoot - you never know if a cross-country ticket is going to cost $250 or $1250 ...... and for two people it adds up.

:1: But it may still be the easiest, most cost effective, way to see the country by motorcycle. I haven't explored it myself, but I may look into it...

That is a good way to go , there is a famous airhead beemer guy that has early 70's beemers stashed in lesser known locales in Europe and Africa .

I think some of it depends on how long you can afford to stay away from home at one time.

For example, if Fay and I wanted to take an 8-week tour of the country, 14,000 miles or so, we could do it all in one swipe, or do it in 4 stages, but paying for 8 roundtrip cross-country plane tickets.....

I'll just leave these here, even though they are a few years old.

I think some here might have seen some of this before, I'm not sure where I first encountered Vermin & Cack, it may well have been a link on Wildguzzi.

WARNING!  Do NOT click either of these links if you have any plans for next week.

Right, same situation here, Mike keeps a BMW and a KTM at home, a couple of smaller dual sports as well.

Agreed. I know there's no way we could take that kind of time all at once, at least not in the foreseeable future, so this may be the best way for us to go. Now, if I could allot a couple or three months, then I'd do it all at once...
