I was starting to think that this wasn't going to happen to me, but sure enough at 24,000 km one of the light brackets has broken, and the other is just starting to go.
I looked for a set of replacement lights, but I didn't really see anything that appealed to me and I've never had any problem with the original lights themselves (no rubbed away insulation etc). I did find a company in UK distributing Clearwaters, and they do look really nice. But I couldn't bring myself to spend 370 pounds on a set of lights that I switch on twice a year!
So I ordered a replacement set of original brackets and discovered that MG has changed the design. There is no longer a hole in the side of the bracket, and this is where the cracks seem to start. On one of my brackets you can just see the crack starting from the hole and running outward.
So, I'm hopeful that with the new design and a rubber washer on the mounting that these will hold up.
Pics show the old design vs. new design (mounted) and also the crack just starting to show.

Man, you shoulda just ordered a pair of Rigid D2HD lamps. You don't realize how much illumination you are missing! The D2HD also have vibration isolation mounts.

Maybe, but actually I don't "need" more light, and I hardly ever use the standard aux lights. I just need to make sure the ones I have don't fall off. Plus, I don't think the "really" good lights (including the Clearwater) are approved for use in Germany. They need an EU code.

the bmw led foglights are, but still need some work to mount. They exist in two versions, standing and hanging. 100 euro each

The stock Guzzi Hella lamps provide very little illumination.

I'm not trying to defend the performance of the original lamps, and probably they are mediocre. But I just don't need the extra performance that you can get with the expensive lamp upgrades. Really, I hardly ever switch them on. I just wanted to point out that MG has obviously realised the original bracket design is flawed and has changed it. The original part number is 88391, and on the parts diagram you can see the cut outs. But the ones I received have no cut outs.
