My 850 eldo loop crank is well scored and will likely need a grind and chrome buildup. I have an 850T crank in much better shape that I could use with its rods and bearings but I can't see the usual suppliers websites showing the crankshaft adaptor that allows me to use the eldo alternator . I'll call around tomorrow morning but anyone have any leads on an adaptor? Anything I am overlooking in doing the swap. As I write this, it occurs to me that I might be able to use the 850T block and accessories as well after sourcing the adaptor. Am I missing something again?

Hi, Harry.
I think Mark at Moto Guzzi Classics makes the adapters up, so I would start there. Then, I think you would use the Eldo timing cover to get the correct front mount. Finally, you will need to drill and tap the generator mounting holes in the top of the engine case. These are used for either the stock generator, or the Scrambler Cycle alternator conversion.
I think that's it, but I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong!

IIRC, Teo Lamers was the originator of the crank adapter design, so I would also definitely check with Moto International (TLM US agent) or direct.

Thanks, Charlie. I know Mark had the adapters, at one point, and I was sure that someone had said that he had them made. However, that was a long time ago, so I could be wrong. Nice to know that TLM has them, though!

Mark's are/were actually better quality. I got one from MI that had the holes drilled and tapped crooked and had a ding right where the seal ran. :-( Bought several from Mark and they were very high quality.

So this is how these things go.
Spoke to Gord Bush Performance this morning where I had dropped off the 850T crank and rods. Gord was helpful. "Don't waste your time!" Understated but insightful. Seems that the 850T crank and rods needed to be sent out as well. Confirmation, again, that any moto resto that requires A to Z will spend much time at $. Thanks guys but the eldo bits are off to the crank shop.

I'm using Bush Performance for all my machine work. I've been disappointed whenever I've used someone else cheaper, newer, or nearer. Gord has been around long enough that he is clearly the real deal and does much of the work himself. When he sends work out, (the crank is being sent out) he knows who to use. I'd give him two thumbs up.
How is your eldo project going?
I'm shimming up a transmission for for mine as well as another for the cx100.

Yes, I read that you had it with Gord, but was wondering if you knew which crank shop he was sending that piece to. My 850-T/750S tribute crank went to Canadian Chrome and Crank, and I was very happy with their work. They've long forgotten more than I will ever know about crankshafts! Garlands did the balancing and ditto for them.
My civilian Eldo project is not doing too much yet. Between the Stelvio teardown, police Eldo u-joint, and tribute build-up, I haven't had a lot of time, this year. However, as soon as I get my oil pump sorted on the latter, I will be in to final assembly of the bike, and hope to finish in Spring (soon will be too cold to work in my non-insulated garage!). As soon as that is done, I will really start on the civilian Eldo. The tank is already in for repair, though, as well as a few other things, so I'm getting a bit of a head start. The toughest part is keeping track of all the parts when I have a number of bikes apart in the same garage!
All good fun! Good luck with your project -- I'll plan to stop by sometime and have a look sometime.
