Title: Went for a Ride Tonight
Post by: smdl on November 26, 2015, 08:23:53 PM
Well, this is a record for me.  After putting new headlight mount bushings in the V11 Le Mans (along with new main and parking bulbs), I took her for a spin.  Not such a big deal, really, as it was 13c in the Greater Toronto Area, today.  However, I usually don't ride this late as there is often about an inch of salt on the roads by now, and it's generally much colder than it has been this year.  I know this weather won't last, but I'm certainly going to enjoy it while it's here!

Cheers,
Shaun

I saw the title and thought Oh here's another of those damn southerners gloating about the fact that they can still ride in winter - and then I read it.  I'm impressed! and just a bit jealous.  It's below -10c here and snow is all around.

Good for you Shaun.  I too have been taking advantage of the weather.  BTW Norm just scooped a perfectly good Pacific Coast for an absurd price - I like it!

Yeah, I used to routinely ride through the winter when I lived in Vancouver, but the interior is a different story.  There, as here, we have to cherish those rare circumstances when both weather and road conditions cooperate!

Cheers,
Shaun

Glad to hear it, Nick, and I expected no less!  Funny about Norm -- he's always got some sort of deal going!

Black Friday ride today!    The high is going to be 64 (F) today.    Typical highs this time of year here are mid-40's.

Don't worry we will be along shortly to Gloat for the next 4 months. ;)

I wish it would only be 4 months.  We normally get snow well into April, and then the fine sand and salt crap stays on the road for some time thereafter -- can be very dangerous and is definitely caustic.  Still, I sneak out for early rides whenever I can, and just wash the bikes down when I come back.

Crazy year!  Sunny and 7C today, not much crap on the roads yet, so I took the mighty Stelvio out for a couple of hours.  That's definitely a first for me in Ontario (riding in the month of December).  No complaints here, though!

Hey Shaun, I had the Stelvio and Breva out last week, originally just planned to get the tank topped up and add the stabilizer but got a little carried away. spent 2 hours out on the Stelvio and 3 on the Breva. Also took the bosses V7 for a good blast. It was a good week on all accounts.

Cheers

El Nino in action.  '97 was the last big El Nino year.  This year should be abnormally warm and dry (relatively speaking) for the North East.

This is the time of year my 2 stroke scooter gets the most use, I don't mind kicking it over in 20F temps and riding to the store, and it loves the cold weather when I take it on a longer ride.

Went for a 3 hour ride yesterday morning at 6AM, from Lancaster to New Ringgold and Stanhope in PA. Quite chilly, 24F. Everything else was ok, except the visor kept freezing... I finally switched to motocross goggles and it was much better. Need a better visor... And real fast!

As long as the road was clear and no snow or ice.  I rode.  Sometimes even in snow.

I agree, but I now add salt and sand to the list.  Such a corrosive and dangerously slippery mix, and it gets applied by the ton, here!!

Spyder prototype? I'm actually envious. ... could use a ski up front and floaty tires at the back. :thumb:

I quite like them too, but I don't really understand why.  I think it may be that they are uncompromisingly fit for purpose.

I'm finding my Cali 1400 to be possibly the best cold weather bike I've owned. Not quite the full fairing coverage of my late K1200GT, but with the big cop bike Touring shield, heated grips, and my legs right behind those big jug heaters, it's pretty toasty. I ride all winter, road conditions permitting (which may mean almost all the time or almost none of the time), but this looks encouraging. So far, though, it's stayed mostly in the forties -- actually nicer than mid eighties in the summer.
