Title: Winter is here - Interesting firearms prices from 1967 and now. (NGC)
Post by: Gliderjohn on November 30, 2015, 05:30:05 PM
While doing some cleanup I came across a 1967 edition of the Shooter's Bible. Thought I would do a few comparisons. All prices are list.

In 67 a new Colt S/A was $130, currently $1,500. That is around an eleven fold increase.
A Ruger Blackhawk .357  in 67 was $87.50, currently $625. Over seven fold increase.
Also note that in 67 the BH was about 2/3 the cost of a colt, now about 45%.
A Colt Std. issue .45 auto was $90 in 67 and now $849. Around a nine fold increase.

A S&W Mod 27. .357 in 67 was $130, currently (using the model 66) $849. Over a six fold increase. Note in 67 the S&W was the same price as the Colt S/A, now it is about 60%.

In 67 a Rem Mod 700 BDL was $149, currently $994. About a seven fold increase.
In 67 a Win Mod 70 Std. was $149, Currently $979 for the Sporter. About the same increase as for the Rem.

In 67 a Win Std mod 94 was $84.95, currently $1,200. Around a 14 fold increase!

Just thought it was interesting, useless information.

Cleanup on aisle 9 . What part of no politics are some of you having so much trouble with . Gliderjohn is gonna quit starting threads if you insist on politicizing every one .

Staying away from the politics Dusty :thumb:

A pint of milk was 4p (9.5 old pence) in 1967 and is 45p now over here - 11 fold increase

Its the way of the world and only us old gits think about it

Roll on Christmas

Ok John, I just ordered a Thompson M1A1 for my Christmas present.  What was the price in 1967?

If you stuck your $130 in a bank for 48 years and managed to average 5% compounded monthly which is not a stretch you'd be pretty close to what you are paying for them now.

The only problem with your comparisons is the new Remingtons are junk compared to the old ones.

$225, at least from one source I could find. Pretty pricy.

In 1975 a Firebird TransAm was $4500 (base Firebird was a lot less).  A Corvette was ~$6000.  Ferrari Dino was $11,000.

Car prices seem to have leveled for a few years.

It's not so much the value of the item that has risen, but more  the value of the dollar decreasing.

Sure, gas was .25 cents a gallon, but we got paid about 15 cents an hour, too.

I like my guns, too bad they reside in Arizona, whilst I reside in Germany

Absolutely NOTHING political in Tom's post; just geography, unless one is searching for a reason to call it so!!!

According to the CPI Inflation Calculator $149 in 1967 had the same buying power as $1061 in 2015 .
