Title: Question for wheel and drum brake gurus
Post by: NCAmother on December 01, 2015, 11:18:43 AM
Hi guys, I have an 850T with the rear drum.  I actually like the rear drum, its looks and it works. My question is, is it possible to swap the drums over to later model wheels? Thanks guys :)

Well Nate , anything is possible  Seriously , it will take a complete re-lacing with probably custom made spokes . What do you hope to gain , isn't your T wheel a nice Borrani ?

I like the look of some of the guzzi cast rims.  I'm pretty happy with the boranni's, don't get me wrong, just a bit heavy :)   Although if a pair of Astralites were under the christmas tree, I'd have no problem converting to rear disk!   :thumb:

Nate , installing that drum brake onto a cast wheel designed for a disc is next to impossible , it would require a whole new wheel basically . Not sure there is much weight to be lost , once again , isn't the original T3 wheel aluminum ?

I think you're right Dusty.  Financially, not an option for the bike, money could be better used elsewhere

Have been trying to remember if any cast wheels ever came with a drum , maybe the early 1980's Classic Sport BMW's , and that would be a snowflake , and we all know Chuckie would not approve of that

Lester made drum rear wheels for bmw s before they came out with the snowflake wheels.  Maybe they had them for Guzzi's too.

They did.  From the Lester catalog (courtesy of the Kawasaki Triples resource site):  http://kawtriple.com/mraxl/lester/lester.htm (http://kawtriple.com/mraxl/lester/lester.htm)
