Title: Milking this year for all it's worth...
Post by: Antietam Classic Cycle on December 06, 2015, 06:34:12 PM
Still riding! Milking this year for all it's worth.  A frosty 25 degrees F when I awoke at 6:30 am this morning. Questioned whether I really wanted to ride to Woodsboro, MD to meet my friend Carl Fugate for breakfast. A cup of tea and some apple butter toast and I geared and headed out. 26 degrees. "Barney", my '71 Ambassador, was rather unhappy, sneezing and coughing on occasion to voice his displeasure.

The further east I rode, the brighter it got, the sun was finally coming over the ridge just outside of Middletown, MD. Not so bad, thumbs were cold, but that was all. Until I ran into the fog. Thick fog around Frederick, thinned out eventually and was fairly clear by time I arrived at the Woodsboro V.F.D. Events Building a 8:00 am. Still only 28 degrees.

After breakfast it was a little warmer, but not much. Carl stayed warm by turning up the controller on his heated gear, I was still pretty cozy except my toesys. We rode a bunch of backroads, keeping the speed slow. Carl knows this area much better than me and there were some very interesting roads I need to go back and ride again next year. Lots of little villages I never knew existed. Pretty neat.

Eventually it warmed up into the 50s which made for very nice riding. Dropped back to 48 by time I arrived home. Nearly 200 miles total for the day.

Stopped off at the Pleasant Valley V.F.D. to see their "train garden" and while we were there shooting the breeze, a guy on this beautiful original '77 Suzuki GT750 "water buffalo" showed up

Good ride Charlie!  Love the white fairing, lowers and bags on your black Ambo, looks great!  Who would have thought you could get in 200 miles this late in the year.

It has been a weird beginning to winter this year. A week of 40 degree weather in northern Wisconsin in December is just odd. I'm sure we'll pay for it later.

I've been enjoying the decent winter temps riding in Michaux. Been averaging over 100 miles per weekend :thumb:. If the forecast remains good for Saturday I'm thinking a breakfast run to Earthdog in Berkley Springs may be in order.

Hopefully the winter remains mild.

I haven't been "off-road" riding at all this year (except for about 10 miles in Green Ridge on the Ambo), just haven't felt like it. The XT just sits in the shed, all forlorn and neglected.

I'm kind of thinking about going a bit farther south into WV, maybe an overnighter into Randolph, Pendleton, Pocahontas and Tucker counties.

Just a little Bush-whacking and upstream wading in search of "uneducated" fish.  You wouldn't believe the places I've gone in search of dumb fish while fly fishing.  If I got hurt I always figured they'd find my body the next spring on the East Carson.  Those peaks are above 8,000 ft
