Title: Need some edumacation on lathe chucks and tooling, please.
Post by: LeRoy on December 07, 2015, 07:16:59 PM
My father passed away recently and left behind a range of items from the machine shop he used to operate. The heavy tooling and machines are long gone, but the items on hand include several lathe chucks, adjustable angle vises, cutting tools and such. I'm not at all versed in this sort of thing and would appreciate any help folks on the list might offer.

My objective is to sell, donate, swap or otherwise move these parts along. However, I don't have the knowledge to know exactly what I have. Is there anyone in the SE Michigan area (Rochester) who might want to spend an hour or so educating me? As an alternative, I can photographically catalog what I have and seek information that way.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Bob, it's not really practical for me to visit right now, although I'd like to.. but I can help if you have pictures and descriptions. Mind you, my pricing knowledge is seriously out of date, but I can probably tell you what you have.

Post some pornographs of the tooling and we can tell you what it is and maybe how much you can expect to sell it for.

I do very well buying and selling tooling on Craigs list. I haven't yet had the goofs in tools that normally come along with Craigslist selling of say; cars, motorcycles and the like. Pretty straight forward fellas so far.

Try here too if the volume is high.

One of my favorite magazines and places on the internet. Weirdos there, but passionate about tools, their transfer and use.
