Lots of ohs and ahs and I might go down and get one when there are price reductions.
How many actually bought a new ( brand new from a dealer) this past year?
-
I bought new Guzzis in 2013 and 2007, and a lightly used one in 2003.
A new Guzzi was the last bike I bought.
I just bought a new Jeep (literally one week ago) so I'm probably out of the game for 2016, but we'll likely buy another new bike by 2017.
A V9 Stone would likely put me over the edge, otherwise I'm leaning towards a T120.
-
I test rode a V7II and an Aprilia Dorso. I bought a 2014 Shiver. The kick from the DOHC 750 in the Shiver was what did it.
In terms of a New Guzzi, I think the Griso is still a worthy mount- though not as versatile as my 1200S. The Stelvio certainly seems versatile. The 1400 is a great bike if it fits you. However, other than the 1400, they are falling behind fast. If the big news is an all style, no go hipster mount (V9), you won't find me staying with the brand.
-
I bought a 2016 V7 Racer six weeks ago from Brookside motors in Tulsa. Love the bike. It is an exponential improvement over my 2010 V7C.
-
I bought two-a V7 and a Norge. I knew exactly what I wanted and the Guzzi bike were it. Got rid of some great bikes to get them but after a few test rides I was sold. Unlike some (which I understand) I was not interested in the highest HP or latest electrical gadgets.
I don't need them. Having had 400 lb 125hp bikes-well, no thanks.
The best part is that whatever a rider might desire they can find someone to make it for them.

Bought a new 2013 stone in white just last August. My daughter, a rock climbing yoga instructor with a passion for life, now wants to learn to ride.

She loves to ride pillion but is waiting to take a local MSF course when time allows.

In mid-August I bought a new 2014 v7 Special. Tons of fun.
-
So new that its official production year doesn't start for another few weeks.
2016 V7II Stone. Sophia.

Hmm , 6 small blocks , maybe Guzzi is on to something here ...

-
Nope. No new ones. Got my neighbor to seriously look at the new ones at GP Motors in San Diego. He's going for the 1400 Cali Custom. Wants to give up his HD Deuce. I getting him to the dark side.
-
2014 V7 Special.
Bought new in August this year.
-
I purchased a new 2012 Norge, March 2015.
-
I'll be buying a new (To me) V11 Scura. The last of the "Hairy Chested" Guzzis.. :bike-037:
-
No. Bought my V7 Stone new in 2013. No need to look for a new bike less than 3 years later.
-
Yes, two of them. I bought a new Norge very early in the year, and then I bought another new Norge a couple of weeks ago. Both white 2014 models. (The first one met an untimely end at the hands of a speeding school teacher.)
-
No, but the one I bought new in 78 did get tyres, oil and a sh@tload of petrol , does that count?
Still my new bike, can't get over how good it is, happy customer here.
-
I got a brand new 2014 Stelvio in September. Love it
-
Yes, a new Eldorado 1400.

New 2015 california 1400 Touring. After the first 1000 mi service I did an instate Iron butt run ss1k. Bike is a runner.

I contacted MI on a V7S I saw on their site. Then Dave said he had a V7R he had just gotten hold of and was actually a better deal. I had him add a 2-up seat for the Mrs.
-
Bought a Custom April of this year.
REALLY like it. first "cruiser" other than a Jackal.
Only problem the oil vents covers on the heads have started leaking. Back to dealer. Florida.

An in-state Iron Butt in NH? How many times did you have to circle the state?

So as of the last post that's 10 new V7s vs. 7 new bib blocks.
Or 10 vs. 10 if count the slightly older ones.
It's a horribly small sample, but it seems to suggest what we've thought we've been hearing and seeing.
If true, the fact that smallblock makes up potentially as many sales as the rest of their models combined is telling.
-
No. I came real close, twice. I was all ready to pull the trigger on a new 2014 V7 Special in the fall of 2013, and was waiting for my 2009 V7C to sell when I found a deal that I couldn't refuse on a slightly used V7R.
I was "THIS CLOSE" to pulling the trigger on one of the super-discounted V7 Specials in August, but, the money wasn't available. When the discounts were over, I was lamenting not just borrowing for a few months to get one, when a great deal on a practically new 2014 V7 Special came up (thanks, Cam). It had less than 1,000 miles on it, and had just been purchased in August.
So, with two fairly new V7's in the garage, I won't be in the market for a new bike for a couple of years. I have to admit, that if I was, the new Bonneville lineup definitely has my attention.

My view only, but if Ducati had that 400 Scrambler or If MG had a 500 at the time I bought I probably would have gone in that direction for my purposes. I am however very happy going with the V7............I don't have the exact but it "must" be 100 pounds lighter?
-
I bought a Stone ll last may. I love the bike
-
Yep, I bought a new 2013 Stelvio, my first Moto Guzzi.
-
Yes, new 2014 Stone, white. Picked her up in early August. Couldn't pass up the deal, and I've wanted one since they first came out.
-
2016 Eldorado 1400. What a comfortable, powerful and fun bike. Great for long rides! Guzzi is making some great stuff.
-
Yes, bought a new left over '13 v7 special in August. Very happy with it so far. This is perfect riding weather here in Florida now.
-
Bought a '16 V7II Stone in May, to replace the '13 Stone I bought in May '13. Got a good price when I sold the '13. For me, the ABS/TC, 6-sp gearbox and roomier ergos were worth the cost. Great bike.
-
Well, I *would* have bought a V9 LeMans.. :whip2:
-
New oldstock Stelvio this past spring (2013). All good so far.
-
Not since the custom 14 purchase in fall of 2013, but I am anxiously awaiting a next gen Griso , perhaps a liquid cooled , 150 h.p. R Nine T killer. I would place a down payment today. What are the chances Piagio?
-
Current score (late-models only):
17 smallblocks to 14 big blocks
-
I thought seriously about the Audace. Rode the V7R into MPH right after they received their first one. A guy beat me to it, and bought it before I had a viewing/test ride. Might have bought the Audace if it was not gone. Not sure if geometry and weight would have been acceptable anyway.
Gave up on the idea of a new Moto Guzzi after MPH let go the franchise. Without local dealer warranty support: not happening.
Not sure if we will see the new models in Houston. We will see if another dealer picks up the franchise. That could happen in a city of over 4 million. Then again, the price of oil is now $37 and 2016 looks to be gut wrenching for the local oil industry. The more thriving medical/construction/finance professionals need to step up and buy more motorcycles.
The more I look at the new Triumph Bonnie T120, the more I like it. Waiting to see one at the dealer. Still think if I add a third bike it will be a light cruiser style.
-
No, I bought a new Bassa in 99, and then a new Breva 1100 in 09. However one of our local breakfast riders, just bought a new 14 Norge last month.

Bought a new, left over, '12 Norge about a year ago to the day. Had it for sale but am having second thoughts. Old work buddy showed me a trick to help with a problem with my left hand that was giving me trouble with the clutch work. Might just keep it now. Sure is one nice motorcycle.
-
Haven't bought one but I've sold a few. Got a bloke picking up a Cali Touring in a few days time, most of the interest is in the V7-II's, especially the Stone.

The Ducati 400 Scrambler is no lighter than the 800. That is a fail in my book, at least for the US market. I'd only want the 400 if it was 325 lbs or less. I can only assume that they built the 400, primarily for tiered license markets.
I have a Monster 796 from which the 800's motor came from, albeit in slightly de-tuned form. I love the torque of this motor. I can't imagine giving up half the torque.

Is the 400 even COMING to the US?
I assumed it was for Japan and tiered license markets only.

Sadly it's looking like our dreams of a new Lemans is dismal with Piaggio making Guzzi more or less a cruiser and retro line that sport... I hope Im wrong .

You may be correct and I didn't investigate release countries.......jus t saw on their site but the realization is that there is a turn back to smaller bikes I am sensing. The kids that work for me are all into some little 125cc Honda and small round town bikes. They think my V7 is bigger than they want. I never disliked my V11 but I love the weight of my V7. Ten years ago all the kids wanted big bikes.

I got a Stelvio. So count in one big block.

LD,
Someone like Houston Superbikes will probably end up with the Guzzi franchise down there.
Trying to recall, but I believe they're the shop that was trying to get Guzzi a few years ago, but MPH blocked them due to their close proximity.
Someone correct me if it was another dealership.

Traded in my 2013 V7 Stone for a new 2013 Stelvio.

A dealer in my state would be nice.
-
We will see if Houston Superbike does pick up MG. They carry Aprilia. By reputation they are an unknown to me. They are right by the super mega dealer on the SW Freeway where I bought my Triumph. Time will tell, it would be good to have a Houston dealer, if they are a quality shop.
-
V7-II Stone way back around April.
Still smiling
-
I just visited today, the great folks that run RoseFarm, they were preparing to deliver a Black Devil to a local area rider, lucky SOB!
-
I have $1,000 down on a 2016 V7II Stone that I just ordered, anticipating arrival before Christmas.
-
Add another small block. I bought a V7ll Stone in May. The sixth gear and abs pulled me off the fence.
I've spent some money on upgrades since. I like the way this bike looks and rides. I don't care how it matches up with "this" or "that" or somebody's vision of what it oughta be. Maybe it doesn't do everything better than any other machine.
But it does one thing extremely well...It makes me happy.
-
Yep.
-
Ok Kev, so how many bikes have we tied off? If Guzzi usually sells 6-700 bikes a year in the USA, we must now have cataloged at least 5% of that, maybe more! Might be enough to make some sort of conclusion?
-
Bought a new 2014 V7 Stone this past February
-
A dealer in my state would be nice.
A dealer, I can ride to would be nice. Nearest one is 2000K miles. The one in Honolulu is only a bike retailer with no service.
-
Maybe I'll get motivated and put my "new" to me 1952 Astore back together and on the road.
-
I was looking at the Touring and Eldo at Renaissance yesterday - and last month. I'd have to trade in the Griso to do so. But with the pickups registration due at the end of the month - not going to happen.
Odd thing is, I don't "tour" as much as I think I do or would like to so the V7 probably makes more sense. Alas, the big block poop has seduced me. The CB1100 is a nice touring machine, but does not have the organic pulse of the Griso, nor the point and squirt acceleration that is intoxicating. It does a superb job in town and in tight twisties with a bigger frame to fit my long body (the V7 is slightly small for me - but I could make it work) and has those extra ponies that come in handy. While I like the sound of the 8V in anger, the inline four also has a very cool angry sound to it - maybe I just like motors. :)
So I'm at least a year off, in reality, two to three. By then I may as well wait until SS kicks in.
-
nope, I bought a new 13 V7 Special last spring
-
I came very close (99%) towards purchasing a new Norge for $11,500 plus tax/license. Didn't complete the purchase for a couple of reasons; primarily because I would have a minimum, 5-hour round trip just to get the bike to the dealer & return home for any warranty work which I expected would happen. Changed my focus and found something else (a used BMW R1200RT) that scratched my itch instead. IMHO, the lack of dealers and distance to get to one plays a big part with many people who buy new bikes of any brand.
-

Nah, I'm loosely counting purchases for the past few years of new Guzzis.
And loosely doing so as it is.
Maybe this should have been a poll.
But the unofficial and highly suspect for lots of reasons count seems to be at
24 Smallblocks vs 19 Big Blocks
Which, think about it, we're only talking 3 models of the one chassis/motor Small Block vs. all 4 Cali Variants, The Norge, Griso, Stelvio, I might have even included a Breva in those big block numbers.
-

Where do you live that vehicle registration is so much as to be the deciding factor?
-
Where do you live that vehicle registration is so much as to be the deciding factor?
It's in his signature:
http://www.dmv.org/az-arizona/car-registration.php
Arizona Vehicle License Tax
The state also charges a vehicle license tax (VLT) at every registration and renewal. This tax is assessed for each $100 of your vehicle's value. Note that the value of your vehicle is calculated as 60% of the original manufacturer's retail price, and that total will be lowered by 16.25% at every registration renewal.
For each $100 of the vehicle's value, you will be assessed:
•New vehicles: $2.80.
•Used vehicles: $2.89.
•Alternative Fuel Vehicle: $4.
But a quick look at Zillow (for the Scottsdale/Fountain Hills area) would suggest their property taxes may make up for it being a fraction of what you would pay in PA for the same property. I'm seeing $500k properties with < $2k in taxes.
Makes me throw up a little bit living in NJ paying uhh > 6x that...
-
Yep, a brand new 2014 Stelvio
Love it
-
Long story short. In Arizona, vehicle registration fees are based on a % of the MSRP new. Then the following years are a % of that till they bottom out to a base fee. California and a number other states do it that way.
You could end up paying more for a new motorcycle than an older vehicle. No highway use fees. Strictly based on value. Hence, a new Rolls Royce which I did the paperwork for ended up being $1500 for one year registration. Tom Watson's wife whipped out her kitchen account checkbook and wrote a check and yes. It was that Tom Watson. I was working the counter in the MVD office in Scottsdale before I took a promotion to Inspector.
Same vehicle out here would be around $280 because it's based on weight. They nail us on taxes everywhere else.

Don't let Tom Wolfe (Governor of PA) see that, he doesn't need any more ideas on taxing us.
Registration fee based on weight makes a lot more sense, as, the heavier the vehicle, the more it wears the roads.
What's stupid about this, is, if you buy a 10 year old used car for $5k that sold new for $30k, you pay (actually, a little more) as much tax as the person that buys a new $30k car. Talk about a regressive tax. Heck, the person buying the 10 year old car for $5k likely can't afford the tax.

Same here, very happy. Orange, the fastest color.
New oldstock Stelvio this past spring (2013). All good so far.
-
What a great roll call!
A tack along question, I noticed some owners ordered their bike, had to wait to get it. How common is this? While I had to visit an alternate dealer, he did have two Norges and a Stelvio in stock plus several V7s and the 1400s. Is that a well stocked dealer or out of the ordinary?
BTW, that dealer puts the MG right up front, they aren't hidden away. That would be Elk Grove, Ca.
-
Sounds like a "well stocked" one to me. Anything more that a usual "local" MG rally. 3 Guzzis in a parking lot.

Had to wait a bit for my 2014 V7 Special, but just because the newest model hadn't been released yet. Purchased it full price in February 2014 once pics of the black/orange color were released. It was delivered to the dealership April 1, and I picked it up a few days later. I could have purchased a reduced price '13, but the color schemes didn't speak to me. While I'm happy for the guys that are getting great deals on leftovers, I wouldn't trade the past two riding seasons on my bike for the 'premium' I paid.
-
Thats a good point about buying a Guzzi. Not everyone is going to walk out the door paying $3000 under list for their bike! If they did, Guzzi would like have to leave the market! A Guzzi like most anything else is worth to you, what you feel it is. Lots of folks pay MSRP or close for their beloved exotic Italian steed, and that perfectly normal. If you read a lot of post here, you might get the idea that everyone is buying for super cheap, that's not really the case. In fact most folks don't get a killer deal, they likely pay a fair price, and all are happy. It's just not as much fun to get online and brag that you paid MSRP, but so what you got what you wanted!

My dealer, Mill City Motorcycles in Minneapolis http://millcitymotorcycles.com/ (http://millcitymotorcycles.com/), had samples of all the models on his floor, both along the street side windows and right at the front door. I could have had a '14 Stone for a steal, or a black '16 for the going rate minus a few promotional bucks, but I wanted the upgrades of the '16 in red, not black. I was okay with the wait. He said the reds weren't even in North America yet in late spring, so I had to wait a few months.
Steve.

At the same time I don't like to get HAD $ wise if I don't have to. If I need a bike NOW I pay the going price. If I can wait awhile and get it cheaper that way, I will. 1 way is not better than the other. Just depends on your priorities.

Picked up that white 2014 Norge from them in November.

Agreed. It all depends on a variety of circumstances.
-
Bought a new V7II STONE in April this year.
Main reason for buying was the ABS brakes and the 6 speed gearbox.
(I had previously sold my BREVA 1100. Legs too short, bike too heavy. 71 years old.)
Kitted it out with Hepco & Becker top Box & Panniers.
Didn't like the suspension. Fitted IKONs on rear and IKON progressive fork springs. 5W oil in the forks.
Didn't like the adjustment of the gearshift. Adjusted that on the vertical link to the gearbox. (Bugger of a place to get to.)
(10mm open ender, preferably short, upper nut is a LH thread.)
Very happy with the bike now, particularly after the modifications & adjustments I performed.
Cheers
Brian
-
Bought a new '14 Stelvio from MI. The orange, fast one. Absolutely love it.
-
What those guys said. At least it goes down over the years.
While not fond of paying taxes, the things we need are not free and we have to pay our share. And we pay, one way or the other. Shrug. Kinda like getting married, the taxes are a commitment you make and other purchases need to carefully weighed before pulling the trigger (like being married, you don't lightly skip out for some fun  ).
I've never owned a bit cruiser, so before the time comes that I may not be able ride anymore, I'm thinking that should be my next bike. Not sure if it'll be a MG, but it's on the short list.
Tomorrow I drive to Tucson to pick up the Griso. She has been rollerized and I'm jonesing to ride a big twin. Love the CB, but it does not scratch the twin itch. :police:

Been ridin' ole Loop frames for 30+ years. Bought my first brand new Moto Guzzi in November. 2015 Moto Guzzi Stelvio - the Green Hulk
Riding the Stelvio make me feel 30+ years younger! I added visibility to the Camo Green for my daily commute. Absolutely lovin' the Stelvio.
Threw up a web page for it: http://www.inet-rendezvous.com/motoguzzi/Moto%20Guzzi%20Stelvio.html
