Title: Need help with ring gap location v1000g5 '78
Post by: amamet on December 10, 2015, 05:47:42 PM
I'm reinstalling the rings on the v1000 and don't have any literature with me at the time. From what I remember the top ring gap is at 12 o'clock and the second rin gap is at 6 o'clock. Cant remember the where the oil scraper gap goes?  These are stock rings from a low mileage 78 v1000 G5
Thx
Allen

Just stagger them all somewhat equally spaced around the piston will be fine. Where you start is not fussy.

For three sets of rings, I stagger them at 120 degrees, making sure that over the pin isn't one of them.  Does it matter? Dunno, but probably not.

I like to put the oil ring gap at "12 o'clock" and the other two gaps at "4 o'clock" and "8 o'clock".
