Title: Comfortable seat for an 850 T3?
Post by: Jules Ballore on December 22, 2015, 07:54:16 AM
Has anyone changed out the seat on their 850 T3?  I've been looking at the Lemans seat that's square and the Lemans seat that's more round. Also looking at the banana seats too. But wondered if anyone's changed seats enough to know which ones are more comfortable. Im gonna be daily riding on it and trying to do some long distant touring and don't want to fab a seat and cut tabs, limiting my existing options before some feedback from the group. I really want a seat that's like the Triumph Thruxton where it has a removable cowl that covers the passenger seat. So I can have a cafe look when riding solo, but can't find any options for the Guzzi like that. Any experience/info/leads very much appreciated.

Thanks

Since you are making a custom bike why not get a Thruxton seat & cowl and have the front remolded to fit whatever tank you are using on your project?

Most comfy seat I ever had on a Tonti was a Convert seat. Big, plush. Not sure how you could "cafe" that one, however.

Maybe one like this?

I think JB Weld put one on a bike of his. Maybe a search back through old topics will turn up the thread.

I've been thinking about that, But I'm really into the Moto Guzzi Le Mans seats lately. Started looking at the blocky ones and started really digging it, but then i swear i read a forum on here where someone said it wasn't too comfy. I wish the V& Racer one didn't have the plate for the number cause I would consider one of those seats.

The LM1/2 seat is the closest thing to a brick IMHO. Stock 850T/T3  stock seat feels much more comfortable to me by comparison .For the best bang for the buck, it may be worth modding the T seat to your liking to achieve the look you want, and still have a seat that fits the bike/ rear fender well. OTOH, the LM seat would be easiest mounted/ supported with the LM seat base/ rear fender, which bolts up to the T frame without any mods.

I really dig that seat dl.allen! I've literally been logging into my computer at work everyday and just staring at bikes online at every free moment eyeing up seats. As much as I really like the looks of the rubber brick ones I think i'm going to opt for either a round LM seat or a Corbin Gunslinger with lady seat.

Remember that the "brick seat doesn't just look like a brick, it also feels like one as you ride the bike so you maybe limited to shorter rides . Additionally, you will  need a LM seat base for it to bolt to your frame without more mods and inherent hassles. As per the Corbin, the seat butts over the tank and the seat to tank interface may or may not fit or look like it flows together.  Some Corbin seats look a bit goofy when fitted to LM tanks, let alone how they would fit a T/T3 tank IMHO

Another option for you if it works.( It has worked for me many times in the past but I live within 150 miles from Corbin's).  You can have Corbin build you a gunfighter+ lady seat off your stock T3 Base.  It will fit the bike and keep the metal Guzzi base that bolts up to the frame.  Only possible issue could be that you wont get to test it for comfort/ butt fit  and look as in the walk-in Corbin  custom jobs jobs the do when you are there in person. As per the " round"? LM seat  which one are you referring to? AFAIK  both the Gaman seats are currently not available as Stucchi who re-popped them  went belly up and was restructured so nothing available currently.  The other seat for the LM1, a hump type cafe seat was produced by Giuliari and Curtis @ Harpers may be able to help you with that

I actually got an order in with Corbin for a LM Gunfighter + Lady seat in some custom Bomber Jacket Black material and Asphalt vinyl side panels. My bike didn't come with the original seat, it had some funky looking seat that reminds me of those generic late 70's - mid 80's dual-up bucket seats that Yamaha and Hondas had. I'm curious to how it will turn out, but I'll probably care less about how stylish it looks and more about how it feels on my tush. Right now I'm still gushing on my wheels that just came back from powder coating and debating ordering motogadget mini controls for the handlebars and spending my hours at work trying to nit pick lists of parts i still need like rear sets, handlebars, headlight, bullet fairing (still debating), and some form of a minimalist rear fender. I finally got my arm out of my cast. It's still not 100% but It's got full range of motion and I'm hoping by mid next year I can start going to the gym to shake off the weight I gained from my lack of riding the past 3 months.

good post.  getting ready to get back into putting the T on the road & the seat is one of the updates I want to do.  Had figured on doing something myself, ordering some foam, etc - but that G5 idea might be a better one.  Does it fit right onto the T?
thanks

I got it second hand so assuming someone else didn't modify it....it was direct bolt on.
