Title: (NGC) Would appreciate input on a photo.

I almost deleted this photo after I took it as it was an error and I didn't like how it turned out. The amazing thing is that everyone that has seen it has thought it was a great photo or are even totally blown away by it. I guess luck wins over skill anytime but from some of the photo buffs here I would appreciate any input.
BTW it is a photo of the "Blood moon eclipse" along with the use of a garage sale tripod which was not steady enough.

All my moon shots blurred to some extent that night. The rest were just one fuzzy moon. Better tripod and a remote or using a the shutter timer would have probably be the way to go. It is all fun.

Post by: rboe on December 26, 2015, 09:23:32 AM: Longer the lens, the more massive your tripod needs to be. Shutter delay is critical too. My camera has two choices, found that the 3 second delay is fine. Mirrorless cameras would probably work even better. But typically I use a 140mm telescope on the Moon which creates some issues that telephoto lenses don't have (but the image uses more of the sensor so the quality goes up :) ).

Looks like you bumped the tripod in that shot; mere shutter bump typically gives a double image offset by just a small amount.

See if your camera has a Live View where you can preview the image, zoom in, and manually adjust the focus.
