to all smarter than me...
I have mike rich stage 2 heads, mike rich 10.25 pistons, megacycle 620 x 10 cam and chromoly pushrods installed in my 2004 cafe sport.
what valve lash settings do you use?
when i first checked the valves, all were tight... i meen some did not alow the pushrods to spin freely!
i set them to .006 int .008 exh...
mike rich said the pushrods make the measurements need to be .002 int .003 exh...
is there any danger leaving them at .006 and .008?
bike sure seems to idle better at this setting.
what is your take?

Can't see any danger, maybe a little noisier. When in doubt always safer to favor bigger gap. I would whip a cover off when hot and see what they are really running at as well.

.15mm (.006 inch) intake and .20 (.008 inch) exhaust is what Guzzi recommended on the V11.
In my experience, running tighter clearances caused problems at idle and a hiccup at 2800 rpm.
His recommendation sure seems tight, to me.

If i remember correctly the specs on my X9 cam were .008&.010. DonG

As I mentioned in the other thread, I'm running .002 and .003 without issue with the titanium pushrods. Dunno about 4130..

Chuck, what are the stock pushrods made of on the V11 ?

Some form of light aluminium alloy.

Looser clearances is harder on cam and tappets, they have room to pound on each other. I'm sure you won't hurt anything at 6&8 but just be aware it's all a balancing act, looser is easier on valve seats, more dwell time to dissipate heat.Mike was pretty persuasive on 2&3 last time we spoke about it.

Different c of e with alloy aluminium and ChroMo. The alloy rods will expand at a similar rate to the materials of the barrel, head and rocker carrier. The ChroMo ones less so. This means the running clearance will be greater with the steel rods if they are set to the same spec as the aluminium ones when the engine is cold. By setting them to a tighter clearance one can hope that the running clearance will be closer to optimal.

Then, the recommendation of tighter clearances for Chrome moly pushrods is correct, since they don't expand as much as aluminum pushrods, once the engine is up to temperature.
I've seen similar specs in hotrod Volkswagen literature. .006 with aluminum... .002 with Chrome Moly.

I have specs for cro-mo pushrods in a Raceco LM4, 390 cam, big bore, stoker motor. Manfred said to set them .002" in and ex.. They always had enough play. I would think 2 & 3 would be correct.

Well, uh.. *probably* Mike Rich knows what he's talking about.

ok..
set vaves to .002 and .003...
result: noticable kick in the midrange and top end!
motor and valves sound proper wiht nice even idle when fully warmed.
thnx for the info and opinions!
