Hi all New to the forum and Guzzi ownership. Have several other bikes including KTM1190 KTM 640, RD250LC, as well as several new and old dirt bikes.
Told the missus a V7 racer would be perfect for her and she believed me. Going to use it as my everyday commuter and she can ride it on the weekends. looking forward to being a part of the forum. Any other Aussies on here?
A few questions If I May.
Looking to replace the std mirrors with direct replacements. Not looking for Bar ends. Have done a search and lots of info but may of the pics are missing due the age of the posts im guessing. Would love to see some pics of different options.
Also exhausts. I love the look of the stds, but am led to believe its not really viable to modify them to get the thing breathing and sounding a little better than the asthmatic character std.
Any benefit to fitting a K & N or similar air filter. Have fitted different options to other bikes and had good results, without needing to reflash etc.
I picked up the Bike in Adelaide SA and rode it Home to Brisbane (about 3000klms) last week and loved. was far more comfortable than I thought it would.
Anyway looking forward to being involved. Any advice info or tips very much appreciated.

If you shorten the inner metal tube at the muffler exit it will be"louder"
Shorten it only a bit at a time as it gets loud fast as more of the larger diameter exit hole is exposed

I have a 2016 V7II Stone, I don't know if they share the same mirrors, but my mirrors were worthless. I saw nothing but my massive upper arms... :rolleyes:
Anyway, here is what I bought from American supplier AF1 Racing, an Aprilia and Guzzi parts dealer. These are OEM Aprilia mirrors, said to be the same mirror used on a couple late model Guzzis, too. They installed perfectly and are rock solid with a clear view at all speeds, and wide enough to give me a commanding view of the world behind me. A little taller, a little wider, and only a hint of my upper arms/shoulder in the reflection. There is a similar mirror that has a shorter stalk, but what would be the point of that?
I don't know if the part numbers are AF1 numbers or Aprilia numbers.

Photos (by the way, that is my Dart Marlin windscreen you see mounted, if you want a "naked" front end with a bit of wind protection, get this one, very clean air hitting you at mid-torso. See the thread by Kev M. about Dart windcreens, the Standard and Marlin versions)-
This photo shows the Aprilia mirror installed on the left side, OEM Guzzi mirror still installed on the right. Look at their relationships to the ends of the handlebars.

This photo shows the Aprilia mirror behind the stock mirror, held in the same mounting position. Their shapes are a bit different, but not unpleasing to my eye.

Front end view of the Aprilia mirrors and my Givi A31 windscreen. Wasn't keen on the hand flares at the bottom of the A31 screen, but they work well to deflect some cold air in cold riding conditions, and the shield provides better overall wind protection for my tall upper body than the more minimalist Dart Marlin (which I may reinstall for summer use). The Givi A34 is the same screen minus the hand flares. It looks better to me than the A31, but I'll keep the A31.

interesting you'd choose to commute on that and not the 640..
isn't it way under powered compared to what you already have?

Fotoguzzi the 640 is a horrible road bike. Very Vibey and tall. Plus I run Knobby tyres on it which wear way too fast on the road.
But get it in the dirt and it is brilliant. I use it as my solo cross country tourer. I don't think to this day there is a better dirt road/off road tourer. Shame KTM stopped making them and have come out with the not so suitable 690. I woul;d be first in line for a 690 adventure.
The n1190 I have is my 2 up tourer. Brilliant bike but shreds tyres like no tomorrow and is too easy to speed on.( I cant help myself) .
So the Guzzi will be my weekday commuter and my misses will ride it the weekends on short trips etc.

I have a pair of Stelvo mirrors with built in turn signals on my V7C.

My local dealer has his own Racer and has added the Agostini mufflers. You can leave the dB killers in or remove them. They sound fantastic. I have heard sever different exhaust options for the V7's, and the Agos sound the very best!

First of all welcome here!! The V7R is a hoot and a fine machine. I use the "sport" mirrors on my V7R. AF1 carries them, so do some other dealers. They are far superior to the stock chrome ones.
On the cans, do remember it is a lot of money for only sound uplift. They do nothing for performance. I wish there was an affordable two-into-one system that would reduce weight, and sound good, and oh yeah, reasonably priced.
One piece of advice: watch the side stand sticking issue. Grease cooks out, and can be very nasty if you can't get the side stand down when the bike is hot. I suggest adding a knob for better boot traction to get the stand down. Otherwise, just have fun, and keep on riding.

Fly and ride is the way to go - well done. When I bought the Special in Tassie, I rode it back to Sydney via the Sunshine Coast. Excellent.
Aftermarket mufflers free up the mid-range on the V7. They are the best thing you can do for your V7. First recommendation - Staintune (as on my V7C), then Agostini (great sound), then Mistral (as came on my V7S, louder). I've also seen Arrows on V7's. Good. Staintune's admin office is now at Bellingen. Mario at Thunderbikes used to handle the Arrows. Motociclo has a range of stuff. Start building a relationship with your guzzi dealers up in your area - you should be able to get 10% off retail, at least. With the Staintunes, Agostinis & Mistrals, at least, no adjustment to the ECU is required.
MIRRORS: I have bar ends on both the V7's, but have also added a Napoleon Barren mirror (about $79 from Motociclo) - see photo - works OK, but last trip it started self-adjusting in the wind, so I have just installed a Rizoma Rapid Sports (no photo yet & it's raining again today in Sydney) - the arm on the Rizoma positions the mirror further out than the Barren and provides so much better coverage that the bar end is superfluous and is likely to be removed. At that price ($210) I got only one to test it out, but may well get another, eventually. If you can wear the cost, I'd go with that one. BTW the Rapid Sport has a shorter arm than the Rapid, and you wouldn't need the longer arm, it's already just past the handle bar.

I've run BMC oiled filters in the V7C for years and the Special came with an oiled filter too. The practical advantage is that theoretically, you don't have to change them as often, but there is a school of thought (held by people who should know) that they may not be the best thing for the bike. I now run the standard paper filter. It is easier & quicker, and probably cheaper.
I have a mate with a Racer who runs a Bagster system to fit his tank bag for trips. Looks great in black - tones down the bling a little. You'll want a photo - I'll see what I can do.

I know you may not like bar-end mirrors but they really are nice. Can see like you should. On a V7 a Rhino Brand adapter makes it a simple 1 bolt and your done.

Thanks for all the info.
Have sourced a set of Tuono mirrors and am looking into the exhaust options.
Both the missus and I are loving this thing. I havnt ridden my 1190 since we got it.
A friend of mine mentioned that there was an issue with the plastic tanks cracking. Anyone able to offer any insite into this. Appareently they are replaced under warranty with a metal tank. Am a bit concerned as mine is out of warranty time, But not KLMs.
What are my chances of getting a metal tank?
Was it a recall or just replace as required type deal.

I don't know the ins & outs of this issue, but I can find out more. Others here are likely to know more. Some of the plastic racer tanks (yours still is plastic, right?) deformed or cracked the imitation chrome & were replaced under warranty. I'd check your situation with the few local, then interstate guzzi dealers. (Motociclo has done several over the year & will know). A metal tanks is preferable for the increase in range, but if you can't get it replaced free, then it can get expensive. Not only the tank, but the fuel pump & tank cap surround would need replacing. Guzzi has a kit (includes everything needed for the change over) for this. My white plastic tank on the Classic has had no issues in 5 years & 120,000k, but then it hasn't got that chrome-like coasting.
If yours hasn't had that issue yet, I'd carry on regardless, it may not happen, but do the research & line up your ducks so you are prepared. You may be suddenly rich & famous, such that the expense is not an issue.

Thanks for ther info Malik. No signs as yet but will keep a close eye on it. A real metal chrome tank with a bit of extra range would be nice though :laugh: :boozing:
