Title: Which Moto Guzzi? - POLL
Post by: canuguzzi on January 06, 2016, 09:10:22 PM
I took the model line from MGs Official Site but left out some sub-models, trying to keep the list somewhat manageable.

If you have a Moto Guzzi, take it that you no longer had it or them and now you would be given free, any model in the line up you wanted.

Time to choose.

Since I love my Breva 1100 I had to vote for the Norge. I've never been on a Griso but it would have to be my 2nd choice.

If I could have more, I would like a California Touring SE, a V7 II Stone, a V7 II Racer, a Griso, and maybe a Stelvio NTX...

The bike I just purchased, a V7 II Special.

Why the Special rather than the Stone? Because the look of the spoke wheels overrode the common sense of buying tubeless tyres. I know that I will live to regret this.

Why the Special rather than the Racer? Because, despite the jazzy red frame, I couldn't look anyone in the face riding a 50hp bike with pseudo racing detailing. Just, no.

Griso 1200 voter here. I've only ridden the 1100 version which I thought was amazing, I'd imagine the 1200 would only be more so.

So far the only voter for the v7 racer.

I already have a big block, I'd like to get a small block for the stable.

For me it would have to be the V7 stone as it's a refinement on my Breva and more practical than the other v7 variants with fork gaters and solid wheels.

As much as I would love to own a Stelvio I'm afraid I can't give it my vote, having rode one I've figured out it would be a one way ticket to jail! So the Eldo got my vote!

One vote for the Griso, best of both worlds superb handling and 100 rw hp.

Because the poll was "if we didn't have one" I picked a V7II Stone.

But IF I still had my Stone, I'd have picked Eldo (or maybe Audace).

"Immediately" is a relative term. In the Guzzi world that could easily mean 9 to 12 months

I find the poll results interesting and a bit conflicting with the "Who bought a new Guzzi in 2015 and what did you purchase thread?".  I think at least half and perhaps slightly more purchased one of the V7 variants

Having an 1100 Griso and NTX I would have to go with the 1400... The Audace is interesting. Still a very heavy bike for what it is...

I pretty much flipped a coin on my purchase.  I was looking at $7k V7 Special and $10k Cal 14 Custom, so price wasn't really an issue.

I almost went with the Cal 14 Custom, but decided on the V7 Special because I  know my riding will be limited over the next couple of years and I wanted something that could ride on my Versa-Haul carrier, on the back of my Suburban.  And, the V7 Special is a hoot around town.

As much as I enjoy the V7 Special, a Cal 14 Custom would have been a fun bike.  My next bike will probably be a bigger, more touring-oriented bike.  That will be a few years.  The Indian Chief is real tempting.  But so is the Cal 14.

I chose the Norge... Though last summer I bought a V7 stone.  At that time, I was 'returning' to motorcycling after several years.  The 013 stone was greatly discounted and the Norge wasn't.  And I wasn't sure I could handle a heavier, more powerful bike.  Today I'm confident that I can... But I do not want to go into debt for a second motorcycle... When availability of resources and a discounted or used Norge Come together... I'm on it.

stupid poll! anybody in their right mind would take the most expensive then sell it for a bike he really wanted to ride.
poll should be "who had the cash to buy a new Guzzi but didn't and why.
1. no dealers because you made their life miserable and profitless.
2. I have owned a bunch of Guzzi's and am tired of all the crappy BS problems that need to be worked out.

Stupid would be saying something is stupid, having the knowledge and ability to do better and then not doing so.

Your post then, leads anyone reading it to only two conclusions.

The way I have adapted the Griso I should say the Norge, my back says the V7 but I want to ride a bike with floor boards before my ticket is punched so I choose the Touring 1400. Still thinking that I will be able to get away and tourer.

Yes, I'm a V9 fan.

I wanted a cruiser this time out, but was initially certain it would be the Touring. When I checked them out in the showroom, however, the Touring just seemed too wide with those cases, and I liked the clean lines of the Custom (and the superior rear shocks), so that's what I went with. My deal included about $1000 worth of free accessories, so I ended up with a bike equipped as a Touring, minus the bags and the light bar, which works well for me.

So, at this point, 23.4% say Griso 1200.

Interesting results for a bike that was among the slowest selling Guzzis over the past couple years.

In my area the V7 sells best (not racer), Stelvio and Griso tie, then Cali and Norge. There are several Griso around our Sunday bike gathering (one with cherry bomb mufflers- ick)

I voted Griso .. and bought a V7 II Stone. The Stone was listed at 17,700 in the local currency and they offered it for 16,000 (about 9000 USD currently) once I showed interest . The Griso on the other hand was listed at 28-something ;)

Surely, I'd love to have both at some point.

Free? I'd either get the Racer, then get rid of the bling, paint the tank, add the cafe seat (it's waterproof), rear rack & centre stand, & change out the suspension. Or, (the preferred option) get the most expensive & sell it to put the proceeds towards a Magni Sfida.

I chose Stelvio.  It'd be rollerized, right?

I like the ADV aesthetic even though I (like 99.3% of all ADV riders) would never see gravel.  Plenty of power, plenty of storage & accessories, and unique without having to get the BMW tattoo behind your left ear.

I like the Audace.  I know that carbon on a Cruiser is like a fat lady ordering 3 double whoppers and a diet coke but it's still cool and different.

Interesting that the choices didn't run according to how much the bikes cost, the MGX-21 is the most expensive?

The most popular models being sold were the most wanted?

Several things could be inferred.

I too await a new Lemans but by what I'm seeing going on with Piaggio I doubt it . I think they are going to unsport or "neuter " the racing/high performance aspect of Guzzi and leaving that for Aprilia. But a retro big bore Lemans would easily empty my wallet.

Interesting that all the 8v 1200 bikes seem to be favored by a wide margin.  This in spite of the rollarization issues.  I admire the lines of the Griso and Stelvio, but prefer the Norge.  Given a choice, I'm not sure which I'd actually buy.... guess it would come down to a test ride and the better price of the three.

I love all my Guzzi's and I've ridden most of their line with the exception of the new MGX21 and I have to say of all the bikes I've ever owned or ridden ( or test ridden) I've never ridden a bike I think checks more boxes than my Stelvio. after 5 years I still get up in the morning excited to ride it to work.

Great handling, great power, super comfortable. I've never had a bike that did so many things so well.

After I park it to walk into work, I'll still turn around to look at it a minimum of 3 times before getting in.

Every day that goes by, I love it that much more. I can't imagine not having it.

Stelvio and Griso are tied, two bikes at opposite ends of the spectrum. The next couple that are close are able to do lots of things and in some respects are closer to each other than the Griso and Stelvio.

Still some time left to vote. I thought far more people would want the V7. Maybe what people really want isn't what they are buying? Not enough info about the group to know so just a guess.

There are the big four but after that, percentages drop rather deeply.

The low percentage of votes for the SB probably has to do with how many already own a modern V7 .

Even if as the poll asked, you had no MG motorcycle or the ones you had you no longer had?

In other words, you don't have but would be given.

Good votes anyway. It does seem that two of the bikes that get the least push from MG (at least right now) are right at the top of the would take list.

Something I found interesting was what MG did with the MGX-21. They did the look demo thing as part of a focus group effort but it was clear they were already in production mode for it, no turning back so would any results have mattered?

This poll is just that but they are dumping the Griso(?) and not a word about the Norge. With March being the release date to dealers for a lot of bikes, isn't this already past the date for 2016 model announcements? I guess there could always be a last minute bombshell like a midrange Stelvio or Norge but with all the new middleweight STs like the MV Augusta and entrenched BMW 8xx they might be a hard sell.
