I'm no trucker, but I do like the music. Personally I like Junior Brown's take on the truckin' theme.

That and Semi Crazy with Red Steagall.
Or Roll On by Dave Dudley.

Jerry Reed +1...every time I go thru Texarkana, that song is played as a tribute...good old Smokey and the Bandit! Classic movies!
-
I like the guitar and banjoe pickers on those road travelling country western songs ... never saw that Junior Brown group before! Thanks Guzzistajohn.
The Convoy and Vanishing point music themes were pop hits for a short while. CB radio was the high tech for the era. The chase is on!
There were other themes about road conditions and accidents that went popular for a while ..... remember Chaplins "Thousand pounds of Bananas"?

Junior's quite a picker and a good old Okie, That instrument he's playing is his own creation he calls a Guit-steel. He puts on a killer show.
-
Junior Brown isn't the group's name, it's the front man's name.
-
Junior also did the opening tune for the Jim Carey movie "Me myself and Irene" Highway petrol

That would be Chapin, Harry. Chaplin was that little guy with the mustache and bowler.
I would rather remember Harry Chapin for some of his other story songs - like Sniper, Dog Town and Better Place To Be.

I stand corrected oh master of Wikipedia  He just taught guitar @ Rogers state University.

Pretty sure he gained his popularity playing in Austin. Played with Asleep at the Wheel for a time. How 'ya doin' Johnny?

Central Oklahoma is my land, it's my country,
Eastern Oklahoma is a beautiful sight.
Northern Oklahoma might as well be Kansas,
Never go to Southern Oklahoma at night...
Still good stuff comin' outta Oklahoma.

Having grown up in, under and intertwined with tractor trailer operation - I have a couple three classic favorites:
CW McCall of course but not the hit (most 'jammers can't stand "Convoy). Rather, "Wolf Creek Pass" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C5A8COF_NYQ
"... Well, Earl grabbed on the shifter and he stabbed her into fifth gear and then the chromium-plated, fully-illuminated genuine accessory shift knob come right off in his hand. I says, "You wanna screw that thing back on, Earl?"
Another was dave Dudley's "Six Days on the Road" though, of late, I'm prone to listen more to Steve Earle's version.
Loves me some driving tunes and driven tunes. My upbringing of course cross pollinated genres due to my tokin', gear pokin', "benny" popping - ain't no stoppin', older brothers.
Hush - Deep Purple
Radar Lover - Golden Earring
Love is the Drug - Roxy Music
My Wife, Goin' Mobile - The Who
So many more. The trail of past "mix tapes" boggles the mind.
Todd.

weed, whites, and wine,
and you show me a sign,

Little Feat... Brother Brian would approve and it'd be found on tapes of his including The Band or Neil Young as he blasted through the night. Always an acoustical civil war in his tractor - Brian's. Loved his music but only the worst weather would keep his passenger window up for fear of any stifling of that single "straight" comin' off a non-turbo charged Cummins.
At any given time, the O'l Man would have one or two straight Cummins tractors. Much, if not near onto all, of my current appreciation for internal combustions effects - sonorous, can be traced to those 175, 225 and 250 horse Cummins lumps. It was the Ol' Man's special joy to be anywhere around town and hear one of his tractors return home by the rail trestle. All the drivers knew to strike the "Jake" on the home side (county Sheriff be damned) as a nod to Pop. The grandiloquent report of a straight stacked 250, hopefully loaded, in the middle of the night or of a lazy afternoon was rockin' sweet.
I recall one Sunday afternoon, blowing insulation in the attic with the Ol' Man. We hit a bag change so the blower was shut off and as we waited in the attic, Pop says "Hear that?" Of course, I did not and asks to what where he says: "Just listen, Little Steve's about to hit the trestle..." Sure as baby rabbits - on comes the Jake as it rattle-roars down the other side. Little Steve, in our '58 Autocar. Sat high and proud up front like the world's largest "Gasser" dragster.
Struck me then, strikes me still... Some sounds!
Trucker's music - not all of it comes from recording studios.
Todd.

My son and his wife, Natalie Stovall, just came out with their new song, Heartbreak. Not a bad driving song.
