I got word today that a spot has opened up on this year's Cannonball Motorcycle Run. My friend, client, and business associate has a 1913 Indian that we will revive from 30 years in his living room and attempt to drive it from Atlantic City to San Diego this coming September. Any words from the wise on the in and outs of a 100+ year old IOE Indian motor?

I think I'll have a little less work than him. This is my starting point...

Kind of looks like my grandmas vacuum cleaner. I always liked the lines of that old bagger.

No it's Fred Wacker. He bought the black V7 Sport I built a few years ago. He has a nice collection of bikes. I'm putting a factory long body sidecar on his 1940 Indian 4, he's got a beautiful 1932 Indian 4, plus a 56 Lodola his dad bought new on his honeymoon in Italy. And a civilian disc brake Eldo I restored for him. There are 3 Triumphs, a BSA, 36 Scout Junior, late 50s MV and Ducati singles and a military WLA. Oh and a Harley Topper!

A few years ago I met the vintage Cannonball MC riders for lunch @ our local HD dealer in Kingman, AZ. on Rte. 66 We live right on Rte.66 so maybe you folks will pass us by again this year depending on the route. I buzzed them on my 250 MP3. Quite a group. :thumb: Definitely hard core.

I think for '16 they are only allowing very old bikes. Like pre
1920 1917 bikes (100 year old).

I was looking over the bike tonight. We've decided to update the rims to modern 21 inch drop center type so we can run better tires. The 28 inch "clincher" tires that are on there are not very safe. Also, it's recommended that we install a front brake. The plan is to build a set of wheels for the trip and save the stock ones for show. We've located a guy reproducing the rear hub. So, I am looking for a drum brake front hub from a small displacement bike. Preferably with a reaction bar rather than one that indexes into a boss on the fork leg. The forks on the Indian measure 4 inches, something narrower would be better. Anybody got anything like that lying around?

This should be a memorable ride, and a 1913 Indian like that should be among the best possible rides.
So I guess the local plan to run a Scout 101 is out. Too bad.

I'm not so sure about a "great ride" no rear suspension and a giant hard leather bicycle seat. The modern tires will help and I think we're going to change the seat, it's allowed.
I'm still working on buying the 101, it's too new to run anyway.

You're buying a 101? I was referring to my local collector. I love those things.
-
What about Nikasil treating the cylinders, that would be allowed wouldn't it?

I'm trying too, I haven't made an offer yet but, I'm ready if the seller would return my calls.
