Just bought and installed much suggested Aprilia mirrors on the V7 stone. Wow, I can actually see what's behind me! The local shop suggested a much more expensive set of barend mirrors... which were very high quality kit... but at a quarter the price the Aprilia mirrors are a bargain compared to the 'cool' barend mirrors. Next upgrade will be shocks... Perhaps the Biturbo ones from the V7sport.

I used to own an Aprilia Tuono and it was my first experience with these mirrors. I agree that they are GREAT. When I bought my V7 Classic (used), the owner had installed the same mirrors so it saved me some money because I would have definitely bought a pair after having them on the Tuono. I used to have the stock mirrors on a Breva 750 and they were not very good so I had installed a pair of Chinese made Rizoma knock off bar-end mirrors. These also worked very well but not as good as the Aprilia mirrors.

I recently put a set on my V7II Stone. The OEM mirrors were OK until I bulked up with a cold weather jacket. Then I mostly saw my own arms and very little of what was behind me. The Aprilia mirrors fixed that. Plus, IMHO, they look better on the bike than the OEM's.

what part number?

These little gems?
I replaced my V7II Stone mirrors with units from AF1, their stock numbers 858539 and 896663, 140mm stalks, and now I can see behind me. Stock Aprilia mirrors for a few of their models, may have been used on the Guzzi 1200 Sport(?). Very solid, a clear view at speed. This is the link to the left mirror, the right mirror web link is found here as well. http://www.af1racing.com/store/Scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=6254 (http://www.af1racing.com/store/Scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=6254)
Aprilia on the left, OEM on the right.

Thanks Steve....I just ordered the pair.
-
And the bonus is they are really inexpensive for being such good mirrors. I wish they would work with my SPIII fairing.
-
I put them on the Norge. Got rid of the ugly chrome ones.
-
I believe the same mirrors are used on a number of other applications, including some MG models (Breva 1200 Sport).
They were among the first modifications I made when I bought mine.

Kev, I think it was you that originally brought this option to everyone's attention years ago. Grazie!

Thanks Kev. You've made functional and safety conscious upgrades on your V7, providing a model for all of us Guzzi newbies! After shocks, I may look into the Corbin gunfighter seat.

I wasn't the first, but I don't remember to whom the credit should go.

Just to update this thread -- I had one of the recommended Aprilia mirrors (the longer-stalked one in the picture above) break off in my hand when I tried to reposition it yesterday. The plastic housing of the mirror simply cracked apart just above its mount. It must have had about 10,000 miles of service.
Any one else experience this failure?
I seem to have bad luck with Griso mirrors. An OEM chrome one failed by spontaneous deconstruction on the highway while I watched, and then disappeared in the wind.
I think I'll replace this latest one with the same model, unless there is now a better suggestion. I do like the good visibility it provides.

Mine are healthy, but nowhere near the service miles that yours have. I guess anything that man can make is prone to fail at some time for some reason. Any evidence of damage prior to the failure? Maybe a rock thrown off of a truck tire struck it and started the failure process? Just tossing out food for thought. Unless the part itself was defective for some reason.
Steve.

Mine have been trouble-free. While I don't have as many miles on them as you do, I do remove them every year for winter storage, and I'm frequently adjusting the mirror part by hand if my Cycleshell nudges them out of whack when parked, which has got to add a little extra wear and tear.
Have to agree with Steve's theory of a past impact damaging it imperceptibly.

I've got 12,000 mi on my V7II Stone and, so far, I've had no issues with the the Aprilia mirrors. A second advantage is that, compared with the OEM mirrors, these tend to stay adjusted longer, i.e., the mirror-to-stem joint is firmer.
-
I looked it over. There is no visible sign of a rock impact, and I don't recall any.
I think I may tend to be fussy about mirror positioning, and adjust them more than average. Maybe I just fatigued it over time, since as sib mentioned, it is a fairly tight mirror.
I'll buy another.

We shouldn't overlook the possibility that you got a defective mirror. Even Aprilia occasionally makes a mistake.

I stuck those on my G8 quite early in the piece, they've been on for close to 100,000km now with no issues at all. I really like them, they are clear and blur-free and give an excellent field of vision. I'm not a fan of bar ends and don't mind the 'Tiger Shrimp' look but they probably aren't everybody's cup of tea.

Looks like Norge mirrors.

Well, I installed a new Aprilia replacement mirror today. It was interesting to find a change in the stalk. Where it had been stepped down to match the receiver, it is now the full 12mm diameter all the way, with a new, bigger receiver. Could be better for vibration control, maybe for longevity.
It's nice to see a product being refined, and presumably improved, rather than cheapened.

Got 'em....love 'em!

How clear are they @ 140 kph ? My standard ones are great up to 120

I just replaced the rear shocks on my '04 Triumph T-100 with Bitubos, they greatly improved the ride. I am pretty happy with them. The V7 and the new generation Bonneville are similar bikes, you wouldn't go wrong with the Bitubos --

Hi, just wondering, do the Aprilia mirrors simply screw into the thread of the standard mirrors on a V7II racer? i.e. is the thread the same size?
-
Yes.
-
I moved my spacers from another bike I sold to the V7. That also works a treat.
-
I have a black pair that came with my Centauro GT. They look much better than the chrome stock ones, IMHO.

Just FYI for those that are interested in those mirrors, there are generic versions of this mirror that go for ~$16/pair on Amazon and Flea-Bay.
