Title: 1000cc Roundfin Guzzi Engine pricing...? ? ?
Post by: radguzzi on January 25, 2016, 07:12:54 PM
A friend here has a Roundfin Guzzi engine that he will never do anything with and I find on the engine number files that are out there that as I suspected, based on the intake manifolds that it appears to be an SP engine....  But.

The number is VG 201540 however, the list on Greg Bender's site indicates that is could be from a Convert, a G5 or an SP....  ? ? ?

V 1000 I Convert VG 11111 - VG 25693
V 1000 G5 VG 18744 - VG 25693
1000 SP & 1000 SP-NT VG 18781 - VG 25693

I will go out on a limb and say that coupled with the SP looking manifolds and no Convert front timing cover that it could be a G5 or the SP.

So, what is a complete engine worth these days...?  The engine is complete minus the alternator, the distributor is in the case, the clutch, flywheel and front timing cover are bolted on, heads, covers, oil lines, manifolds and the oil pan are all bolted, nothing seems to be disturbed.

Thanks,
Rob

I'll start the cyber bidding...

$1-200  ?   iron bores and carbs included? maybe $250?   in other words, not much.. IMHO

$700 - $1,000 if in good condition, rotates freely and has good compression.

Since it is in unknown condition, it's worth the sum of it's parts. What would you pay for a set of cylinder heads, etc,? If it is an SP, it'll have the small valve heads, not as valuable as medium valve heads. What's a pair of iron bore cylinders worth? You get the drift. I'd pay 500-750.. if I wanted it.

If it has the rubber elbow manifolds, it could indeed be a Convert, G5 or CX100 engine - all from 1981 likely.

Edit: Though, not sure if the CX engines start with VG.

$500 seems reasonable to me but not much more. The engine title on my CX is VU, but it's basically the same engine as a G5, SP, Convert.

Ok, I think I'll let him figure out what he want for it based on yous guys say so on value.

Thanks,
Rob

No rubber elbows, aluminum as I recall having on SPs and G5s that I have owned.

Best,
Rob
